If your version of Windows did not mention, try to contact them and ask them. But you could try both and see which one will work.

Hi Mark, First check which version of Windows is installed on the computer. How to Determine the Version of Windows XP in Usehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/310104 If you find that the version of Windows installed on the computer is Windows media center edition 2005 than you can select Windows XP home edition to download and install the printer driver. Hope this helps!Halima S - Microsoft Support.Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

My tower and everywhere else I look says I have Windows XP Media center edition 2005. I have no idea which one to choose. Can you please help me?Windows XP was released in the following editions:Home EditionProfessional EditionTablet PC EditionMedia Center EditionAll versions of the Windows XP Media Center edition were based upon Windows XP Professional - and include additional features to facilitate use as a home-entertainment hub. For further information, see -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Media_Center_Edition.Printer drivers that are suitable for Win XP Professional should work equally well with Win XP Media Center. However, there are two fundamentally different versions of the major Windows operating systems - 32 bit and 64 bit. (There are 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Win XP, Vista, and Win 7). You will find detailed guidance at -http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions and at www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/xp64.php.You have stated that your computer tower is labelled - Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Most Win XP computers with the Home, Professional, Media Center or Tablet PC Editions use the 32-bit version. Although you haven't told us whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit computer, it probably has a 32-bit operating system. For 32-bit computers, you MUST use 32-bit printer drivers. If your computer is one of the few that does have a 64-bit operating system, then, you should use 64-bit printer drivers. To confirm precise details of the operating system:Click on 'Start' (bottom left hand corner of your Win XP desktop)Right click on 'My Computer' and click on 'Properties'.Make a careful note of the Operating System (full details).Unless the 'My Computer Properties' state specifically that you have a 64-bit system, you should assume that you have a 32-bit system - and install the Windows XP Home/Professional update for your Brother printer. If you do have a 64-bit system, then you should install the Windows Professional x64 update for your Brother printer.
