What Is 'Teamviewer'
I received a cal yesterday reporting to be from global support. The online phone representative wanted me to try a new application being offered to windows 7 pc owners. The application is called "TeamViewer". Can someone give me the low down info on this application, and whether the offer is legitimate.L Stiefel

Teamviewer is a support tool similar to remote assistance in Windows. It enables support person to take control of your PC (mouse and keyboard). Unless you asked for support, don't accept the offer.

The question here is what and who exactly is global support? If you are referring to your company's corporate support or help desk, beware if they are calling you and asking you to install some software. To me, this sounds like a social engineering scam because global support personnel usually try and avoid end users ;-) All kidding aside, next time they call you, ask for their name and extension. Then look in your company's corporate directory and call the number listed there and ask for the person or the extension. This way, you know it's a legitimate call and not some smart alec social engineering his way into your computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_engineering_(security) Miguel Fra | Falcon IT Services, Miami, FL www.falconitservices.com | www.falconits.com | Blog

As discussed it is a remote desktop application and AFAIK they never call anyone. Also as discussed it is probably a phishing scam that has been around for years. Never allow anyone access to your computer unless you initiated the procedure and know for sure who they are. There have been many, many cases where an unsuspecting user has fallen for it.
