What Antiviruses work on Vista
I am preparing to install Vista today (with a new psu) and I need an AV. I have used it in VirtualPC and AVG (free, latest) does not work. It says it is incompatible (Well vista says that). I have got that CA antivirus thing but are there any other free ones that work. I want AVG to.

Vista compatible Anti-Virus applications: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=65844 http://www.windowsonecare.com/ Review carefullythe description on compatibility issues, since Vista and AV (and all applications) are still in development. HTH.

Ami wrong or is it true that One care will not work with Vista Beta? I tried to install and got a non compatibility warning that said Onecare would only work with XP. Since this is a test bed machine Vista and Office 2007 I would prefer to use MS. It also supports 3 machines if you buy it. Not a bad deal.

I was told by MS that OneCare Live will not work with Vista. I followed the page directed by MS, see URL above, to AWILL Trend Micro 14's page. I have tried both 14 and the newest build 14.55 but they both created a problem with downloading with ReGet Delux. I had a bear of a time uninstalling the 14 release and had to hack the registry a bit. TrendMicro attached a driver to a miniport driver I use. I have now installed Avast 4.7 and is works great. It uses hardly any resources unlike all of those other virus scanners and it is a dream to use. The only complaint I have about it is it seems to be a bit low on a full system scan. GOOD LUCK! Sam

You might try AVG again. One of the latest updates stated purpose is to "fix a known incompatibility with AVG" I have not tried it again since I installed Avast and it works fine.

I am also running CA v7 it works with one issue. The applications need to ask for Admin rights every time at login. Is there a fix for this? Thanks

I had CA eTrust Anti-virus installed, but was having problems with it and Windows Defender kept blocking it when I started Vista. I downloaded and installed the latest AVG today and have had no problems so far.

NOD32 should be released in a couple of weeks that is fixed to work in Vista, that is posted in the ESET forum.

Oh that's just bloddy great Lee. We have to sit here exposed to virus' while we wait for the AV vendors to get their act together. Don't you think MS could have collaborated with them in advance so we wouldn't be so exposed to this risk while we try to help MS develop Vista? We need a better answer than what your giving us.

Try the free 12 month trial of CA Antivirus for Vista testers. I downloaded it a few minutes ago and so far its working fine. I will go back to PC-Cillin when the Vista-compatible version comes out though (my 2006 version won't work and I havent asked the Trend Micro rep yet about 2007 but from what I am hearing it is not meant for Vista).

AVG(the full program, not the free one)does not work with Vista. After 5 tries and half a dozen e-mail form AVG tech support, it still will not install. I believe Microsoft is still up to it old monoply tricks and is trying to froce every to use their Windows Live One Care program. They have done it to every other good program that comes along. AVG is a great program ( works on my two other computers running Windows XP) and if Microsoft is blocking AVG on Vista, they need to sue Microsoft.

I've had the same problem after trying for 2 days AVG will not install. OneCare worked for a while and then it stopped updating; the repairs only work for a day or so. Re-installing gives me the same problem after a couple of days. I don't believe OneCare's malware works either.
June 20th, 2007 3:11am

OK. OneCare doesn't support x64 yet
