Weird Network Problem
Hi Guys. I have been running Windows Home Server since it's release, & it has saved my bacon on numerous occasions. Before I use WHS to restore my workstation (hopefully to a backup that may resolve the following issue).Currently have 5 machines connected to network: - 1x Vista Business, 1x Win 7 Ultimate(64), 2x Win 7 Professional & WHS.Accessing my workstation a short time ago to view a media file, found that the media players (have Roxio & WMP) do not see the server. On accessing network, workstation no longer sees any of the other machines, but it does have net access.Checked via other machines & they can access all clients/server, including my workstation. This leads me to believe that network settings/router ok, but somehow, network configuration on workstation suffered a hiccup.IP address ok, workgroup ok, diagnostics couldn't find any problem, so I'm at a loss as to why I can't see other clients on the network.Any advice will be most appreciated.

This is getting stranger by the minute. After making backups of essential data, restored a backup from the last time/date I used media from server.Still getting the same problem. Cannot see client or server via network or win explorer. However, can access server via the shared folders & the files in each share, but the media players cannot access those shares. All network configurations ok, router ok, share permissions ok & all other clients & server can access my workstation.I would love to get this resolved as I watch/listen to media from my workstation to save interrupting my disabled wife's media enjoyment in the lounge.Since the op, I have attempted 3 restores, all which have successfully restored with the exception of this problem. As I enjoy learning, any pointers as to the cause would be really appreciated, as I cannot think what to do next.Net access is no problem & have even accessed router from workstation to check settings. IP address for workstation correct. Have run AV/Anti Malware, scandisk & all reported no problems.Edit: - Just done a reboot - same problem, but this time around, Network Map shows all clients & server, still with no access.

Tried one last option before reinstalling all programs from fresh. Wiped HD, reformatted & tried a restore, it worked. It was mentioned to me that the system may have been infected, if so, it was a strange one. Most infections I've experienced in the past actually hijacked my web browser. This was just no access to lan, with everything else working correctly. Just left wondering if an MS update was the cause......

Hi, May I know which computer is the workstation you mentioned in the five machines? I know it works this time. If the issue re-occurs, please also check the following: 1. Disable the security software on the computer. 2. Update the NIC driver. 3. Check if you can ping the server or access the share folder with “\\computer\folder” or “\\IP Address\folder”. 4. Boot the Windows 7 client to clean boot environment to check the issue: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 In the future, if you experience any issues regarding our products or if you have some feedbacks, you are also welcome to post a new thread in our forum. It is always our pleasure to be of assistance. Thanks again. Have a nice day! Nicholas Li - MSFT
