Weird DHCP / IP address issues
Hello - We have a strange issues where at random, different clients loose their IP information and subsequently network connectivity. When this happens, the right click / status shows as: "No network Access" but media state "enabled". Yet, when you do an IPCONFIG / ALL, it shows as having a valid IP address! In some cases the NIC is disabled - even when the user has no admin rights to enable or disable the NIC - this might be a red herring, or another, different issue. Checking the logs shows lots of DHCP messages for all adapters Event ID 1001 & 1003 about failing to obtain an IP address, or failing to renew an existing one. There are plenty of DHCP addresses in the scope. One thing might be the clients sit on the same subnet as the DHCP server (also DNS & AD/Domain controller). The Wifi card - also enabled - is on a different subnet/VLAN so uses the same Layer 3 switch - but requires the IP HELPER address to reach the DHCP server. Why is this randomly affecting different users, and what can we do to test more? Kind regards...

1. Here is solution to "EventID" problem http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc774831(v=ws.10).aspx 2. I have not quite catch the role of WiFi, it this functionality as an alternative to metal network or it is for external users. 3. Have you considered address reservations? 4. In any case you can analyze the network traffic by network monitor and pipoint the faulting spot. Regards Milos

Is your subnet big enough to cover all computers. You might be running out of free IP addresses. Check your DNS server for duplicate IPs, maybe enable the scavanging on your DNS server to free up some unsed IPs.
