Webpage redirects/blocked access
Haven't been able to find an answer to my problems.2 weeks ago, was on a webpage I visit from time to time and Avast said 'infected file this and that. connection aborted.' I didn't think much of it, happens from time to time when I browse. Have my hueristics on high as well.Well I turned my computer on to find out that some app run under svchost was failing. Event viewer showed it as DCOM. Fixed that, but then on restart Crypt32 was failing (codes 8 and 11), Update Agent (16), Service Control Manager (7023), DCOM [again but not at first] (10016), MrxSmb (8003).First thing I did was reboot after disconnecting to the internet and running a full scan with Avast. Came up with some infected files in the System Volume Information. Before I deleted all the Restore files I tried loading one from May. No bones, after restart it said it failed and then restarted and refused to load any restore points.Turned off System Restore on all discs. Rebooted. Infected files gone. Still showing errors in Event Viewer but none causing problems.Went to windows updates... and I had no connection. Not in Chrome, Firefox, or IE. I was able to access this from another computer on the same network. This has also happened on other various websites (latest discovery was Oovoo.com)Also noticed that from time to time when browsing clicking on known links (I found this first on Newgrounds happening to me) that instead of going to the proper page, the browser would redirect to random webpages. Usually they have been just an IP address in the address bar that loads a "Your computer is infected page" so I close the browser and reopen it and usually doesn't happen right away. Other times it has taken me to random job search results on yellow pages and once it took me to some china movie website.Has been interfering with video conferencing and screen sharing on skype as well. Here is a list to date of AV programs I have run to try and find this bugger. All have turned out nothing.Avast, AVG, Ad-aware, Bit Defender, Comodo, and Panda.*Note, I had to uninstall Avast to install AVG and then the reverse to put Avast back on.Used Comodo to clean my registry too as I recently went through and uninstalled all non-essentials since I basically only use this computer for media purposes and internet communications such as video calling family. Part of my problem is that this is a tablet PC and the discs that came with it have been lost forever [I don't even remember if Fujitsu gave me OS disc with the tablet]. When I was a student at Tech they informed me that the XP Tablet Ed. sp3 discs I had (I had copies of operating systems issued by the school) does not have the drivers on it for this computer. So I cannot do a reformat at this point because I basically have several operating systems I will not be able to install.I have no more ideas about how to find this virus/error and seeing as my reformatting options are not going to work right now I am seeing if anyone else has any ideas.1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi Benjisan, It could be a browser hijack issue. I will try that. I have to use another computer to access any *.microsoft.* webpage.I was wondering though, if it is a browser hijack issue, would that extend to other programs? Along with not being able to access websites (in this example www.oovoo.com) neither can the oovoo application. Same goes for AVG being able to update.Also... 1.7+TB takes forever to scan... >.<I will reply when I get to access Microsoft Security Essentials and the Malicious Software Removal Tool.It also seems that it has disabled Windows Defender although windows does not make note of it until I attempt to open windows firewall from control panel. I get the error: "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?"Clicking yes just gives me the error that windows cannot start it. Services.msc shows it as automatic and attempted start from that gives me error 5: access denied. To reiterate I use the Sys admin account (and this bit me in the @$$ a few years ago and I never learned my lesson)... so not quite sure how to regain access...
