I have Windows 7 64 bit and the computer came with Internet Explorer 9. When I first got the computer, it worked fine. After a few months, IE9 started not displaying some of the web pages. I reset the browser back to default and tried starting it with no add-ons loaded. Still will not display but what I did notice is that after it goes to the web site you can display the source code. That tells me that it is going to the web site but not displaying the page. Ive looked at some of the responses to this problem on TechNet and tried some of the possible solutions but it does not seem to change anything. Note: These pages will render fine in Mozilla Firefox. Is there an answer to this problem?

Sounds like you might have gotten a bum video driver via a Windows Update somewhere along the way. Try visiting the web site of the maker of your video card and download/install their latest driver release for your hardware and OS. I went back to original drivers that came from Dell and disabled GPU. The problem persists. No Joy!

For the last two days I have tested at home and at work several different settings and web pages and there is something not right. All previous IE versions,(8,7,6) all render the websites I have tested without fail. When I try with IE9 they will either time out, which happened trying to post to this, or the page will take upwards of 10 minutes to render in full. The biggest issue I have is the fact that I cannot "downgrade" to IE8. I have followed every step Microsoft has out there to uninstall IE9 to return to IE8, but something changed at some time because when I follow those instructions, I am left without an IE all together. I have made sure all updates are current in software and hardware, I have also followed all instructions found on TechNet and MSDN to the enth degree. I have users that are moving to Windows 7 and we want to use IE9. Having this type of behaviour after at least of year of solid working for me just doesn't sit well with future plans.

Curious about trying this... press f12 to bring up the debugging tools. Next to validate on the toolbar, you should see browser mode. It should be set to IE 9. If you change it around to IE 8 or IE 7, does that rectify your issue? (document mode can be changed also). Not a solution per se, but it would really pinpoint if the version is an issue here or IE is screwed up. Let me know how any of these turn out for you.

Good thought! I tried all three-browser modes and it did not work. I tried Document Mode and it worked in IE7 standards mode but the forms would not work (not good if you are trying to login to a site!) I also tried safe mode and had the same results as before. I do have the latest IE9 64 bit. This all worked when I first got the computer. I'm still looking for answers, as I don't really want to keep using Firefox. :-)

Hi Rkunkler, You stated that the computer "came with Internet Explorer 9". Well, you don't know how it was installed then. Click Start>Control Panel>Programs and "Turn Windows features on or off", then uncheck IE9 and select OK. Then reboot when that is finished. Next run Windows Update and select IE9 as an update and re-install it. Something is ganked. This will give a you clean install of both versions (32 & 64 bit) of IE9 from a good source.

OK I turned Windows features off for IE9 in Control Panel and rebooted. When I ran Windows Update it told me that my computer is up to date. Any Ideas?

Ok. You have IE8 now when you launch internet explorer. Is that true? Click on the gear at the top right and select about internet explorer. Can you browse web sites now? If you have IE8 then IE9 should be available as an optional update in Windows Updates. There you can select it and reinstall IE9 if you wish to use it.

I do not think he is back to IE8 just yet. He just unchecked the IE 9 features under "turn Windows features on or off". However at this step, it would be worth trying to reinstall IE 9. rkunkler1... click on "view installed updates" right above "Turn Windows features on or off" and let it populate for a few minutes. Select Internet Explorer 9 and uninstall it. This will bring you back to IE 8. See if you are having the same issues as what you are having in IE 9 before reinstalling IE 9. Then when you are done doing that, Windows Update should pick up that you have an update for IE and let you install a fresh copy of IE 9.

No I can't launch IE at all with it turned off. And the Update site still tells me that my computer is up to date. Also I tried to download IE9 from Microsoft and when i try to load it the system says that it can't that I have a newer version loaded. If i turn on the IE9 feature it will run and makes me setup the securty but it still don't work right. Also my login into the form got messed up when I logged in the last time. It made me change my profile name. So that just made my day!

I had the same problem, these removal instructions worked & then on restarting IE8 offered a link to u[pgrade to IE9...one restart later & I now have IE9 rendering all the pages correctly that previously were blank. BTW, all add-ons survived this process intact.Thanks.

This is an update to the IE9 problem. I got the system back to IE8 and everything worked fine but I was unable to load IE9 ("WindowsUpdate_00003715" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" Error.). At this point, I was going to use IE8 as it seemed to be working and I could not load IE 9 back on my computer. Well! The magic of Windows Update surprised me again. It unexpectedly updated my computer back to IE9 (after a week of not being able to load IE9) and the problem with the pages not rendering came back. That is how I noticed it had updated. Now just how did Windows Update do that when I tried many times to load IE9? We call that Microsoft magic. Anyway, Im back to square one. I still need help with IE9 and I cannot seem to get a good answer as to why this will not work. Help!!!

Try this. Go to start>run>msconfig and do a diagnostic start up. See if it will work then. Just seeing if its not a 3rd party program messing with it.

Why do you tell people to try all these things when you surely know that it will not solve anything. Show that you know a little more than the first time computer users or people will surely think you know less than they do.

Sorry about that Proposed Answer thing! I didn't know what I was doing. As for this IE9 not rendering a site. I had a similar issue BUT it was only NOT rendering in IE9 for a site that I have running locally in IIS. I could, however, render the page in IE9 on another machine and it worked just fine. My issue was just locally and ONLY when I used the local machine name. i.e. http://localhost WORKED! But http://MachineName DID NOT work. So to fix my issue I just added http://MachineName to the Local Intranet Site list in IE9. Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Local Intranet -> Sites. Then Add http://MachineName to the list. Uncheck the https checkbox if just adding http. Then it all started working locally. I'm not sure why this is as I have other servers that work just fine. I have never come across this issue until now. Good news is that it works now, but I would like someone to explain why I had to do that in the first place. BTW, this was on a Windows 2008 R2 after installing SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services and SharePoint 2010 Enterprise. Hope this helps someone! Dave.Dave Stuart
