WebDav problem on Windows 7 (64 bit) when using Smart Card client certficates to authentication to SharePoint
I am trying to connect to a WSS 3.0 site using "Open with Windows Explorer" on a Windows 7 64 bit client. I am asked to select a certificate as expected but then am prompted to enter in a user name and password. Entering in a user name or password does not work and makes no sense seeing as how the server isn't configured to accept basic or NTML authentication. Hitting cancel results in the Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer message. My SharePoint site is using FBA using a custom HTTP module that looks up the client certificate in a database and sets the identity to the login account used in our custom membership provider. This works with out any incident in Windows XP. It didn't work in Vista until a WebDAV fix came out that was included in SP1. In Vista I also had to turn off User Account Control but it does work in Vista now as well. Now with Windows 7 I'm going through the same headache that I went though with Vista. I've tried setting the BasicAuthLevel registry setting to 2 and adding the AuthForwardServerList entry to no avail. I've tried adding the web folder manually using the map network folder from windows explorer and from the command line with "net use" using both http://sitename and \\sitename@SSL syntax. The site is added to the trusted sites list, the sites root certificate is added to the trusted certificate store and I turned off UAC and none of it has helped resolve the problem. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Hi, Have you tried the following hotfix? You are prompted to enter your credentials when you access an FQDN site from a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows 7 and has no proxy configured Meanwhile, the path of the folder should contain less than 100 characters. Hope it helps. Alex ZhaoPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. That hotfix claims The fix is included in Windows 7. To fix the issue, you only need to create the registry item below. I have already added the WebDAV site to the AuthForwardServerList registry item as I stated in my original post. I tried installing the hotfix in Windows 7 and was told The update is not applicable to your computer. The folder path is less than 100 characters.
