Ways to create a wireless access point?
So I have a desktop running windows 7 and I would like to create a wireless access point for my powerbook. Internet is via LAN. My wireless card is realtek and supported in windows 7... shows up, could connect if there were wireless etc... I go "set up a connection or network," "create a new router or access point," but my wireless card never shows up. This is a bust? Try 2: ad-hoc network. I am able to create one between the computers, though this is less ideal. There seems to be some authentication problems between the two however. Internet sharing only works with an open connection, and the powerbook will fail to even join the connection if WPA2 authentication is assigned (simple WEP works). Try 3: I've been looking for 3rd party software but haven't found anything...

Which version of MAC are you using as older version does not support WPA2. Similar to Windows XP where you need to install a patch for getting WPA2 compatibility. Check if your MAC OS supports it or not

If you already have internet access via a broadband ISP using DSL or cable I certainly recommend an inexpensive consumer grade wireless router. It would be much more robust than using ICS and would offer a high degree of security using WPA2-Personal to secure the wireless network. Personally I use a ZyXEL NBG334W wireless broadband router.MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"
