'Sup with Windows Update on a nVidia 960 GTX SSC with that old old old " nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware" & Others...

Ummm ... why is Windows Update trying to install the FUTURE GENERATION of NVIDIA GRAPHIC Card which does not even use this whatsoever - that's for older NVIDIA graphic cards but Windows  Update insists on trying to "INSTALL" this "IMPORTANT" update of "nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware" - which goes back to 2012? HELLO? These 960 GTX didn't come out until mid-late 2013; they don't come with these adapters and no matter how many times I have HIDDEN this update - it gets installed and crashes my whole NAS OS System!

Not to mention it also insists on installation (this is a brand new OS mainboard and everything - 2014, BIOS is 11/24/2014, ASUS Maximus Hero VII ACU? It does absolutely NO GOOD to create a Recovery Flash, Run a File History, and all of these things; superimposed because of that Windows Update having installed these that were "HIDDEN" by me as this is a brand new (meaning clean slate) - and from what I had managed to work around it with usage of the Microsoft OEM Builder's Windows 8.1 Pro Disk - I was able to see what happened but yet, I can't uninstall them because those particular KB's are not "removable" - those are:

1) Acer update (dated 2011) - Monitor - which pushes it backwards instead of forwards? (newest one 1080 DPI)

2) HP driver (dated 2006) - Monitor - not only pushes it backwards, but it's the wrong type, an OCR and not the HD/HDMI/DVR which is a 780 DPI

(I run on surround monitors on EVGA NVIDIA SLI but Windows Update doesn't permit me to update NVIDIA Graphics Drivers and GeForce yet - for some reason and yet I have DirX 9, 10 and 11 - those required to run the NVIDIA Graphic Dual SLI - this comes during the "While we're installing your apps" event; Windows Update automatically takes me out of the Intel i7k processor into NVIDIA.

I am still scratching my head here on these 5 KB's since clicking on them leads to a page not found in Microsoft - I had to do an online research and to my horror; why in the world is Windows Update still having Windows XP / XP Pro trying to put these three into the Windows 8.1 Pro for?

A) Server 2005 - there are 11 updates for this Server

B) Server 2008 - there are 128 updates, hotfixes, and security updates for this one

and

C) Server 2010 - that was a BETA version - it does not exist; what we have is Server 2012 and that is pretty much what Windows Update is installing ?

Bottom line - Why am I winding up with the "Blast from the past" - I have nothing installed yet; had to revert to all the way down to STOP WINDOWS UPDATES to allow me to come online, and then the options to run on Windows Update at this point is taking me backwards to 2009 to 2013? WHY? This is only going to cause me to crash. I did try to hide everything except for the latest 2014 to 2015, so whatever would be important that was missed out in 2014 would finally show up in the Windows Update (I got the idea after BETA that PoC Jumpstart); I decided to jumpstart the Windows Update so it would Synchronize this new NAS Operating System - mind you, it is not a true NAS, it is only there for files and mounted drives only but nothing has gone that far yet - I am heavy on the Programs and Files; but haven't gotten there yet, I'm still in square one!

So what happens? I crash, finding the spot to pick from is like finding a needle in a haystack; I do not dare use the Automatic Updates yet because all it will do is crash this system with 168 updates all at once. I have checked every single KB's and they are all marked as important; yes I know some have to be installed for example the Microsoft Camera Codec... but some of them leaves my head scratching for example ... Why does Windows Update insists on a security (KB) - 5 or 6 of them, in year of 2012 and 2013 when there are tons of current (roll ups) in 2014? Hiding them does no good, it's going to install whether you like it or not.

Steps I did take to approach that seems to be working; being very selective - pick the KB's I know and just uncheck everything else and download those and those get installed and restart; but oddly, it will not create a "System Auto Restore Point", I have to do this manually before the update and after the update - for goodness sakes.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS THE PRIORITY UPDATES FOR 2014 THAT ARE IMPERATIVE TO BE DOWNLOADED, so I can proceed in downloading them one by one if someone can kindly tell me which KBs' they are including the non-KBs' - it would be nice if someone noted download this security update on the NET FRAMEWORK after you have downloaded all these listed KBs' first dated xx/xx/xxxx - would be very helpful here.

++++++++++++++++++++++

Then the other issue here is the MSO - I have my Language Pack installed, I am aware that this has to be installed prior to some KBs' or you won't be able to install it - I own the Premium Version of MSO; should I wait off on installation of the LIPs' - I also noticed they were SP 1 versions, not the pre-SP 1 version!

SUGGESTION ANYONE?

Here's my specs - and yes, I've tried to install the ROG and NVIDIA updates and drivers but Windows 8.1 Pro will crash, I have t wait before I can update on this portion here:

I DO WANT TO ADD the reason for this reinstallation was because of the power surge that caused the power surge, power protector and battery back up failed me, the Corporation compensated me after they had their Investigator come by to check the very expensive unit (they cover over 2 million dollars so this is not a cheap equipment - FYI!) and it turned out, the unit had a flaw, so in turn they had to compensate for all the damages - which meant my entire MOBO was fried literally - had to rebuild this from HERO VI to HERO VII ACU (since the store no longer sold the Asus Hero VI); because of the store's closure .... I got pretty lucky here even though I lost my Evga nVidia SuperOverClock GTX - for that same amount of money that I paid for it wound up with a dual upgrade on Evga SLI (dual) of GTX SSC 960; plus dual sided Corsair Memory (DDR3 PC3 - 16000), yadda, yadda, yadda - all the good stuff here - but I am not a fan of semi-modular hook ups - gone now is the 550 Watts and in is the same brand - Corsair 750 except it is semi modular - everything is brand new; computer DX has been checked thoroughly inside/out - up and running with no Q-Code Errors....

I just added this additional specs; while this tower is a FULL SIZED NAS TOWER - the purpose of it is not for NAS, in spite of all the bays; those SATAS are actually all from Win 95, Win 98, Win XP Pro, Win Vista (locked); Win 7 Ultimate and Win 8.1 Pro (I boot from BIOS) - but the only SATA that is hooked up is just two HDD - one is the Primary is the "C" Drive for Win 8.1P and the other is for File History, Windows Update Back Up (in case of failure) and then the Server - it is a huge 4 TB and none are DYNAMIC - they are all NTSF. Yes, I do have Sys Reserve - which is Primary and Active as it should be - but during the Windows Update - it creates a MSR (that comes from a GPT - aka General Partition Table; and I have to format that back to NTSF and expand that back into the "C" drive - that is if I can get back again without crashing.

As of right now - everything is failing; it won't recognize the "Recovery", "File History", yadda, yadda, yadda, that is after Windows Update ....  but I do have a EXHDD that has files that isn't available in MSFT anymore which would give me a huge jumpstart - since it is under my "Control Name and not TM (trusted installer or system)" -  because I have and save every single imperative files - like you wouldn't believe in that EXHDD but the problem here is, I can't get to that drive yet until the Windows Updates are installed first - which complicates everything - I have to go one way or the other; tried both and it failed.

So exactly how did I managed to get back online? Well - Since I have my old, old platinum@on.microsoft.com which is long defunct since Steve departed; I found out that adding this back into the Users actually worked here, Bill (Gates) is the originator who gave that email address to me which I can no longer access it anymore; same way with MSDN. So it's causing a problem here - but what I did in USERS account was made it an Administrator and all my old accounts since Win 6.1 since I've been volunteering and piloting (long before such word as "BETA" since 1987 when Bill himself certified me as Microsoft Master Expert - I have already made copies of that old Micro-Soft (really, that was Microsoft's original name before that dash was eliminated) and you wouldn't like that original colors either, that hideous ugly silvery gray background with Micro-Soft in White with a deep dark Indigo border about 3/4 of the way under the name and then the White Bar ...

You might say - Micro-Soft / Microsoft has improved their Name and Colors! Even when they dropped that dash on the Micro-Soft, and became Microsoft - I have that on my NAS Tower - my tower is Historical - it has everything from the past (1977) to current ... that is how far back I go; first Certified Master Expert with IBM in 1980 and was already a Professor in September 1982 ... so that's how William "Bill" Gates and I had met was because of IBM, they were poking fun about Gates and his thing called "Windows" and being the Federal Government Specialist as well, I was able to correspond to the US Government via ASCII Electronic Email (DOS) and yes, there was a Bill Gates and he had a Federal Grant, provisions of his "electronic email" was given to me and I contacted him, and it went on from there and I began to work on piloting Windows 95!

:)

Makes me feel old, but that is what I've been doing for ages - yet; everyone's forgotten about me - *laughing* except the local Microsoft Certified whatever they are, are learning from this Old Professor here, I'm their cheat sheet and they're becoming Microsoft Gold to Platinum and I am a bit jealous because "platinum" is my on.microsoft.com email addy or was...

:-/

I can remember when Steve called me because Bill told him to; then emailing me; trying to get me back after I balked and kept warning them about Win ME / 2000 in BETA (now that was a word now) was JUNK and it wasn't going to work, I had the fix in the registry that would prevent such crashing and no one wanted to listen to me; well, I spent years repairing people's and businesses' OS systems so their towers wouldn't crash; they wanted me to BETA XP... after much nagging from Steve (I guess he wouldn't take "NO" for an answer), I caved in and came back to BETA again with all these Servers to XP to Office and Windows OS Phone (YES, I still have it and NO it is not for sale either! TYVM!)....

Superimposed, being aware that some folks didn't like me because being too straightforward ---> bottom line here ... I am just a volunteer, I don't beat around the bush ---> if I say it is not going to work, I meant it; I wasn't placed on the top rung of the ladder in the Federal Government in the Computer and Technology in Classified for years without a reason and those people who were working with me didn't always like me either; I reminded them "I'm not paid to be liked, I'm paid to do the job right and making sure you guys do too!" While back in those days, they were usually held by "MEN" - Women up there in the rung of the ladder was unheard of; but eventually outside of the Federal Government, off the shift - had experienced a severe traumatic accident that put me out of commission for extended period of time; so the Federal Government had retired me at an young age.

It is interesting to know that it was "I" who was pushing with Micro-Star International (aka MSI) into the Federal Government Services that which was reserved for Military only; got my way on that on the mainboards; now I wanted Micro-Soft / Microsoft in the Federal Government and out with Sperry-Rand / Apple / IBM computers (which constantly broke down or overloaded the Servers); I got my way but I was already "retired" at least the Microsoft Servers were installed at that given time and the Federal Government was on the "pilot" range at that time frame and found out they were more energy efficient as well as more stability than the IBMs' Servers (which by the way, drove me up the wall if you don't mind me releasing my steam on that one here)... hence, why now that the US Government and then States began usage of Microsoft all the way to School Systems was because I loathe APPLE / MAC / iOS - iOS-X!

FACTS:

APPLE + MACS = FOOD ( what you eat - you can eat healthy and junk food at the same time *grins*)

WINDOWS + HOME/BUSINESS = Computers (makes sense)

Commodores = Sounds like a toilet =  Need a commode anyone?

SPERRY - RAND = Need a prescription refill? Since when did a Pharma become involved in Compute this?

IBM = sounds like I BE ME - today's generation; it's all about me; "Selfie" anyone?

I mean I could go on and on and on ... but you are probably laughing too hard now ...

From the volume of text that you have posted it is hard to discern what your problem or question is. Could you please reword or summarize your question or issue?

In regards to functioning drivers that are overwritten with drivers that no longer function, the first step that I would recommend is to download and install the latest drivers straight from the system or device manufacturer. For your NVIDIA GTX 960 as of this writing that would be GeForce Game Ready Driver v353.30 from NVIDIA. If you are losing internet access due to updates to your network adapter drivers, the driver downloads would be Intel Gigabit Ethernet Driver v19.1.51.0 from ASUS or Intel Gigabit Ethernet Controller Driver for Windows 8.1 v19.1 from Intel.
