Want to start Windows Firewall
Hello, I would like help on starting my Windows Firewall for XP Professional. When I try to start it, it says: "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service? Yes/No" When I click yes, it says: "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service." I really do not know what I am doing wrong, or whether it is my computer that has a problem, or my Windows Firewall. Help would be appreciated, and thank you for taking your time to read this. 2 people need an answerI do too

What antivirus/security program(s) do you have installed? Many of them have their own firewall component which will (rightly) disable the built-in Windows Firewall.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

I have AVG Free, version 8.5.435. However, when I look at the security components/status overview, the Firewall component is missing.

AVG Free doesn't have a firewall component. Start with making sure your computer is malware-free. AVG alone will not do this. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware Also, see if you can answer The First Question Of Troubleshooting: If the problem is new, what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't? I'm assuming this is a home computer, not on a domain. If my assumption is incorrect then see your domain administrator (usually the IT Dept.). Come back with the results of your thorough scanning and the answer to The First Question and we can go from there.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
