Want to block a website through the registry
I want to be able to block certain websites through my registry. I have already done it through the "Hosts" file in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc but I'd like to do something in the registry as well, if possible. I found some information on this page and I will paste it for you now, word for word: ____________________________________________________________________________ I create a .reg file and import settings like this. To block websites, here is 1 that I add for iwon.com [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\iwon.com] "*"=dword:00000004 _____________________________________________________________________________ I just don't understand what this person is trying to do. It's not clear at all what new entry or dword I'm supposed to create. Also this is referring to Windows XP, so I'm not sure it's even possible on Windows 7. I run the x64 edition. Also here's the link where I found the information: http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-7343-0.html?forumID=102&threadID=262268&messageID=3045644&tag=content;leftCol I appreciate whatever advice you can offer

Hi, First, I would like to say that the registry is just adding the site to Restricted Sites Zone. You may refer to the following article: How Can I Add a Site to Internet Explorer’s Restricted Sites Zone? Perfect...That worked great. I know it isn't your speciality, but you wouldn't happen to know how to do the same thing to Firefox would you? I did try something...I went to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc and opened "hosts" in Notepad. Then I added sites I wanted blocked. But then something went wrong and I did not see any effects of that, so I went back in and removed what I had added. Then later I noticed later that Firefox could not open those sites anyway, even though their references in the host file were now gone. I think it was some other procedure I tried but can't remember.
