Waking up on the SPACE bar
I would like to set up my computer to wake up when I press a key on the keyboard or click the mouse. But when I enable KB or mouse to wake up the computer, they do it immediately after it goes asleep, even though I do not touch them. so effectively is does not sleep at all. I have Windows 7 Pro and ASUS P5N-D mobo. Both, mouse and KB are USB. Is there any way to fix this behavior? Thank you, Rita

In Device Manager, go to your keyboard properties and on the Power Management tab, check the box next to "Allow this device to wake the computer." Under your mouse settings, make sure the box is unchecked. See if that makes a difference. SC Tom -There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.

I already tried this configuration, it does not make any difference. With mouse wakeup disabled keyboard causes spurious wakleup on its own.

It's probably not the keyboard that's waking it unless it's a USB wireless. It may be your NIC that's waking it up. Check its Power Management settings to see if Wake on LAN is enabled. If it's an onboard NIC, you may have to disable WoL in BIOS, too. SC Tom -There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.

Wake up on LAN in BIOS is disabled by default on this mobo and I disabled it in Device manager as well. When I disable keyboard wakeup computer does go into sleep mode, so I do not think your assumption is correct. Keyboard is regular USB, mouse is wireless.

What make and model is the keyboard? Are there any drivers necessary for it to perform other functions, such as multimedia playing or checking email automatically? If so, have you updated those drivers? SC Tom -There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support.

It is a Logitech KB with some multimedia features - Windows Media Player controls built-in. It runs under stock Win7 driver and all its features work correctly, but it's worth trying it with the native driver. I will post the results here. Thank you for your support.
