Wakes up from sleep by itself
I recently installed Win7 Home Prem 64bit on my laptop, and it works sorta ok, beside from small glitches. One of the glitches I just found recently when I was at work and messenger warned me that I was already logged in at home. Checking the event viewer on my laptop at home, I did see that the computer for some reason had awaken from sleep mode, ran for a few hours and then went into sleep mode again. This has happened several times since, regardless of being on batteries only or in plugged in with power. To find out what caused this I read an article mentioning the powercfg command. When I woke up this morning, the PC was running again despite I put it to sleep last night. I ran the powercfg lastwake command, this only gave me the result that the machine had been awaked by fixed feature - button. And to be sure I also ran powercfg devicequery wake_armed to see if any devices are able to wake the laptop from sleep. The command gives me a blank result, so I guess no hardware devices can wake the laptop. I have also checked the usual suspects in device manager as well. So, does anyone have ideas what else I can do? Win7 says I was awaken by power button? Despite the lid being closed (and you have to press the power button after opening lid before it can start) Can it be an error in manufacturers APCI driver? This I hope not, since Zepto has filed for bankruptcy.

You hadn't mentioned yet that you've checked the bios settings to make sure an event/interrupt can wake it up.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

Yes and no. The correct answer would be, there are not much settings you can set in the BIOS. Only "Wake on PME" which is deactivated. To add into the story, ran XP SP3 before and had no such problems, dont know if Win7 brings new features into this area.

Thx for your reply Nikhil Are you completely sure about this hotfix, since the description seems to help on other problems, like non-responding hot-keys and PC that will not go to sleep. My problem is that the computer DOES sleep, however something wakes it up, powercfg says the power button.

OK check the power plan configurations again. there may be any program that might causing this issue. perform Clean Boot and test the issue How to perform Clean Boot: 1. Click Start, type MSCONFIG in the Search Bar and Press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility. Please click Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up. 2. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click Disable All (if it is not gray). 3. Click the Startup tab, click Disable All and click OK. 4. Restart the computer and test the issue. ==> Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled during the troubleshooting, we can enable them later. If there appears System Configuration Utility , check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click OK. Nikhil

Hi Bjoeg, I would like to suggest you update the BIOS to check the issue. In addition, I also suggest you refer to the following link to check if these troubleshooting suggestions can fix the issue for you. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976877 Good luck!Arthur Li - MSFT

Hi Arthur_LI Sorry for the lack of reply, which has taken some time. Regarding the BIOS, I am already on the newest, and not likely to come any newer since the manufacturer has filed for bankruptcy. Thanks for the link. Though much of it seems to be already the things I have gone throuh. I have checked the usual suspects of devices able to wake the PC from sleep, and there are none. Also the powercfg command reports no devices able to wake the PC from sleep. I have checked the event viewer for details, if it should be some program able to wake the PC, but the odd thing is, the OS keeps saying it is the "Power Button" which wakes the PC. Something that would require someone to actually press the button (laptop is designed not to wake on lid opening). Hi Bjoeg, Whats the issue in Clean Boot Nikhil Deshpande suggested?Arthur Li - MSFT

I am still waiting, to see if the machine starts with the services disabled. So far it has been quiet for a week. The services involved are (in case anyone has seen the behaviour before) Intel Matrix Storage Event Monitor Nvidia Display Driver Service Steam Client Service Will report back if it wakes by itself again, and probably some time later if it does not.
