Wakes from sleep by itself
I havea WHS, a laptop and a desktop on a wired LAN with a broadband modem. Only the desktop has Win7 RC and the WHS connector software installed. The laptop has Vista HP and no connector software. A shared printer is on the server. Before installing Win7 I was using Vista Business and all seemed to work fine. The desktop stayed in sleep mode untill the backup by WHS woke it up. After installing Win7 the desktop now will wake itself, usually after about 15 to 20 minutes. I have tried disconnecting things one at a time but cannot nail down just what is waking the computer. It seems that when the server is off it will stay sleeping longer and some times with the server off it will sleep untill I wake it. It woke itself even with the LAN unplugged. Anyone have any suggestions?Thank you,Joe

Please try the following method to find which device causes this issue. 1. Open a command prompt and run the command powercfg -devicequery wake_armed 2. Try to disable each of these devices above one by one and test the problem until you find the culprit that is waking up the computer. powercfg -devicedisablewake "device name" 3. Once you find the one that is causing problems, you can re-enable the other devices. powercfg -deviceenablewake "device name" Regarding the problem device, it is recommended to install the latest driver. If it does not help, you may disable it if it is not necessary.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Arthur, The only things listed for the wake event were:PS2 keyboardHID keyboardHID mouseNIC I unplugged the wireless USB desktop and the wake event still occurred.I then disabled the WOL function and the wake event did not occurr.I then deleted the MS Realtec LAN driver and installed the Asus driver driver that came with the MOBO.I had to run the setup in Vista compatability but it did install but did not resolve the issue. The event log for power troubleshooter is: The system has resumed from sleep. Sleep Time: 2009-06-23T00:57:09.072534500Z Wake Time: 2009-06-23T01:02:07.061601500Z Wake Source: Unknown I'm trying to resolve this because I have a WHS and I like auto-backup when the computer is not in use. If I have to I will disable the WOL and do a manual backup. Thanks, Joe

Based on this information, the issue should be caused by the driver. Currently most of the latest device drivers are for Windows Vista. Some of them may be functional in Windows 7 RC, but conflictions may exist. We may need to wait for new drivers from manufacturer. You may disable the current adapter and try to use a external instead as a temporary resolution. Another workaround is that when you would like to enter Sleep Mode, if network is not needed, use the method that was mentioned in my previous post to disable the NIC temporary.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I checked Asus. They do not list a Win 7 specific driver but do have one later than the orignal. I'll give one of their Vista 64 drivers a try and hope for a Win 7 driver. Thanks for the info Arthur,Joe

HiI have just installed the win 7 RC on my main box, installed without any hitches and I have not had to do anything to update drivers etc. Anyway, I had set up a power save mode to stay on all the time for overnight downloading (WoW). This now done I reverted back to standard power save on the RC. THe PC went to sleep fine, then woke up on its own!!!!No clue as to why, will try the above to see, but it frightened the life out of me. One other noteworthy, my son had just returned from school and he may have turned on his XBOX 360, would that have caused a network push to say "Hi Im a media player?" And the other one probably put on the shhh PS3 again a network push on a media player.Just a thought!
