Wake On LAN - Works until Windows 7 is allowed to reboot...
I have an issue with WAKE ON LAN - Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) (Motherboard - WOL is configured within the BIOS and also within the OS. It will wake from sleep with either the mouse or keyboard but not from the LAN. If I load LINUX onto the system and use the utility 'ETHTOOL' then it reports that WOL is 'disabled', if I then use the utility 'ETHTOOL' to enable it and then re-boot into Windows then it will work in Windows correctly until the system is re-booted (allow windows to close down and then start up linux). If I then check again it shows as 'disabled'. It would appear as if the Windows drivers are not correctly configuring the NIC? I have tried the drivers that came with the MB. I have also downloaded the latest version as available from the Gigabyte website, I have also tried the latest driver version from the nVidia chipset site, I have also tried the current 'Microsoft' drivers for this. They all exhibit the same problem i.e. on a windows reboot they 'disable' wake on LAN and none of the available settings will re-enable it - Booting the system into linux and using 'ETHTOOL' indicates that the feature has been disabled again on the NIC card - updating with 'ETHTOOL' will allow it to work until Windows is restarted. The tests above would seem to suggest that the motherboard is working correctly and that the BIOS is also setup correctly for WOL. If I do a complete re-install of Windows then the WOL will work for a couple of days and then stop again - possible that Windows is updating some drivers/applying patches? Any help would be greatfully received as this is really causing me some problems at the moment. Hi, Yes, I have tried/checked all the settings and they are all set correctly. The BIOS is configured OK as when I dual boot the machine into Ubuntu then I can get it to sleep/wake without issue as per the previous post. The fact that it works for a while and then stops (no change in config) seems to suggest a driver issue but I can't find any alternative drivers. Andrew

Hi, Firstly, please let us know when Wake On LAN is failed, whether all the settings are set correctly. Meanwhile, based on my research, please try the following: 1. Please boot into Safe Mode with networking or Clean Boot Mode and test the issue again. 2. If you use a customized Power Plan, change it to Balance and test the issue again. More information: Power Management for Network Devices in Windows 7 Also, due to the issue may be related to the hardware or its driver, it is recommended to contact Gigabyte Support for help. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support

Hi, I've just tried the suggestions above - 1. Booting into Safe Mode with Networking : Safe mode doesn't appear to support sleep so couldn't do any testing. 2. Booting into Clean Boot Mode : Still the same issue i.e. the PC won't wake from LAN. I have already logged a case with Gigabyte but their response so far is that they have it working...and they send me a picture to show it... I've ordered an additional NIC card to see if the problem exists with that...I'll let you know what happens. Does anyone know if there are any tools/utilities around that will confirm the configuration that is actually on the NIC card - similar to ETHTOOL for Linux that allows you to display/change settings on the NIC card directly. It was that utility that indicated that Windows is actually disabling the WOL when it is being shut down... Andy

Hi, I have gone back to GigaByte support to see if they can assist further. I am using the latest/current drivers that they supply but they still have the same issue. The additional NIC card is still to arrive. I'll update the notes here when I know if that one works. Andy
