WTF !!!!!!!!
God !! OK, so I really am getting tired of computers in general ...... it's SUCH a pain in the ass to do anything anymore. So, does anyone out there still feel like farting around with this crap to get things working ..... I'm tired of trying to get Billy Gates crap running because they know whats best for us ..... (sigh) I gotta network, genaric shares. its all XP because it works, I have a shiney new laptop with trendy windows 7 ultimate on it. The XP boxes can happilly see the Win 7 shares and I can browse the shares on the XP boxes and sorta see whats on the other machines cept for one damm box, that one shows me the folders and I can see the tree .... on one folder if I click on it I can get to the files in it. On all the rest I get this gay crap about "Network Error" Grey box - Windows cannot access \\Main]main_d\Movies <--- in bold You do not have permission to access \\ (see above) Contact your network admin to request access. Anyway - the share is setup on the whole partition and the perms are "everyone" with Full control and change and read. I can see one subfolder on that share and its files within just dandy but not other folders on that platter and I can see all the other PC's and their shares on the network but just not this set of folders and their files except for that one on the share and nothing else? .... see now its this crap thats why I'm quitting farting around with computers for a living .... I'm just not that motivated to screw with the little sods anymore. So can I do "something" to get this damm Win 7 Pc to play nice or nuck and pave the bugger and go back to XP? (grin) Cheers' Dave dc

Well, it's start, you are finally letting go of XP, Anyway, click Start->type sys and choose system form the control panel results and confirm that the Windows 7 computer is in the same workgroup as the target computer. Click Start\Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center and select change advanced sharing settings from the left pane. Review the settings there. Turn everything on except password protected sharing. Also at the top, select "see full map" and confirm that Windows 7 is happy with your network. Check the firmware of router and update it if available. Restart the router. Be sure that the XP computers are at least SP2. There were some networking changes. And just for review, check that the Windows 7 user has permissions on the XP target computer http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb456988.aspx

What is the exact error message or error code that you get in the details section? Does it help if you stop sharing one of those shares and share it again? Do you have any 3r party firewall on the target box that might be preventing access? Sumesh P - Microsoft Online Community Support
