WIndows 7 updating problems
HI I have been having trouble installing updates for Windows 7 (64 bit) including the service pack. The updater is set to automatically install updates, but as well as SP1, there are 5 optional updates that have not been installed. I have followed the steps given when I get an error message (usually element not found with SP1, with the most bizarre error message: Error: ERROR_NOT_FOUND (0x80070490): run troubleshooter, run the system update readiness tool, and turn off the antivirus. The problem is that the updater simply does not download at all, it says downloading, but sits on 0% for as long as I leave it running. I thought that may just be a problem with the service pack and that I maybe needed to install the optional updates first. So I tried to do that. Now, these updates have a total size of about 800 KB, which in downloading time should be a matter of seconds. I left it running for 30 minutes but there was still no progress. Gonna leave it overnight now, but not really expecting anything. Also the updater seems confused, when I try to install the update again after closing the program in my frustration at the lack of download, it says preparing to install, gets about 1/4 of the way through, then gives me that weird error message. Can anyone help me with this? It's driving me crazyMy technical knowledge is severely lacking. Please be gentle
