WIndows 7 RC
..Few have mentioned how the Defragmenter has changed ! In XP you could follow the defrag process; well, for those of you that may not have noticed, you can now follow degfrag progress as in XP. No wasted visual graphics bar but all the info is there. Thank you Microsoft -- One of my irriitants; especially the long time required by Vista.

In XP you could follow the defrag process; well, for those of you that may not have noticed -- Unlikely, you can now follow degfrag progress as in XP. No wasted visual graphics bar but all the info is there. Thank you Microsoft -- One of my irritants. Hi MarshallMost of the changes you see in the Defrag utility were made when Windows Vista was developed.Windows 7 has actually improved the defrag utilty since Vista. See the following article for the details.Engineering Windows 7 : Disk Defragmentation Background and Engineering the Windows 7 ImprovementsHope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

I admit watching the graph was entertaining (and time wasting). I was never convinced that what you saw on the screen really reflected whatwas happening on the HDD.Bill

Ronnie, ...Thank you for your Windows (Xp/7) defrag info; most appreciated. I saw another erudite individual was thankful -- even the apparent mundane for us who like to use all our senses (visual/Sound) are aesthetically sensitive! Grateful, Marshall (60)

Ronnie, I do not know the extent of circulation when I reply to you but the following might be of interest to those that VM. I have a Mac Pro and have used both VMware Fusion 2 and Parallels. I am so thrilled with the improvements with Windows 7 and virtualization -- Can you hear my gutteral utterance? The space improvements are stupendous ! I watched the YouTube piece on architecture and "states" -- congradulations ! Now, if the Enterprise grabs all your improvements your 4th Quarter on... will improve... Go easy on Cloud computing with Yahoo; we do not want to lose our proprietory software -- subscriptions can go so far (Google) ! I would suggest "add-on" propretory software and run your "Cloud" as a separate income source -- there is some inference that Microsoft is looking at it this way. Your pschologists and marketing Dept. must be busy. Regards, Marshall

Ronnie, Here is an issue I worry about for you to pass on... I will miss proprietory "Money;" nothing compared to it. If you go to the internet with your "Cloud"in the future, please use ALL the features. There were some inaccuracies in your reporting/inference that "Banks" provide all the same features. I know Microsoft is also generous in consideration of other providers but... noting compared with "Money" for me! "Money" could access my bank (Wachovia) updates and securities like no other program -- I tried them all. Your, Microsoft's, consideration in the future with this issue would be appreciated. Regards, Marshall
