It was supposed to be April the 8th but it's been pushed back to May 10th I believe. Someone at microsoft put the RC download page up by mistake--but I think it was a gimmick--then they changed it so it would take you to the old 7000 build download page.texan4u

Why is the date for release to public of RC1 being pushed away into the future inthis manner? From comments going on online, almost everyone has been looking forward to getting the RC1 by 10th April especially in light of the stability the Beta version has shown since its release to public._____________felijay

The date is pushed into the future because it is not ready. "Release Candidate" means that a particular build that is designated as such is an actual candidate for being labled "final." If there are other bugs, issues and polishing that is needed, then the RC is not ready for release. It is best to push back an arbitrary date in an effort to ensure that good, quality code is released.

Actually, Darien, we never had an official release date. We've had rumors, inuendo, more rumors, whoopsies with web pages, and more rumors. But nothing concrete. It's kind of hard to "push back" something that's never been published officially. As far as I'm concerned, there's no real need to worry about it all. As you said, it'll be released when it's fully "cooked." No one wants to see a half baked copy of Windows... (Except maybe the ABM crowd - the Mac and Linux fanatics would love to see Microsoft fail epically).
