WD File Management Engine./Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT could not be found
I am receiving an Application Error, which is the WD File Management Engine. I feel this is related to what I see under System in Event Viewer: Events 32 and 59 (Source: SideBySide), Description: Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT could not be found and last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system. Also, Event ID 59, Source: SideBySide, Description: Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\Western Digital\WD Smartware\Front Parlor\XP\Shadow.dllWestern Digital technical support would provide no solution in 3 phone calls, each time saying to contact Microsoft since the error shows in the operating sysyem event log.A friend has the same errors in his event viewer. The device performs properly, but these errors bug me and hopefully a solution can be found. 2 people need an answerI do too

Basically the err msg relates to MS Visual C++ runtime. Have you run MSUpdate to see what is offered? The o/s event log reports all errors, and they are not neccessarily win specific errors.Have you also tried uninstalling all WD software, rebooting the PC, then running DiskCleanup, then reinstalling WD software?

Thanks for replying.I did uninstall and reinstall the software as you suggested. I let this thing sit several hours. Had no errors on the 14th. I had to restart today and I found only 3 errors: two event 59's and a 32. One of the event 59's was "Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\Western Digital\WD Smartware\Front Parlor\XP\Shadow.dll"As to the MS Visual C++ runtime: There are no updates available. Looking in Add/Remove Programs with Updates checked, I find the following related :Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 RedistributableMicrosoft Visual C++ 2005 RedistributableMicrosoft Visual C++ 2008 ATL Update kb973924 - x86 9.030729.4148Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistrubutable - x86 9.021022Should I remove these or install later versions or other solutions? Thank you.
