WDS 2012 Standalone Server and Active Directory Prestaged Devices

Hi there

I had a wds server 2012 in AD Integrated Mode running.

Due to problems with pxe-boot of uefi clients I was advised to re-setup my WDS in standalone mode, which I did.

Now, in my wds console I see 2 lists: "Prestaged Devices" and "Active Directory Prestaged Devices".

When I deploy to one of the computers listed in "Active Directory Prestaged Devices", the prestaged device is not recognized and a new fantasy-named computer account appears in AD.

When I add the same client manually to the list "Prestaged Devices" prior to deployment, the existing AD computer account is used and the computer gets the right name.

I need WDS 2012 Standalone to use the "Active Directory Prestaged Devices" rather than or in addition to "Prestaged Devices".

Can this be done?

"This Server is configured in Standalone mode. Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) properties are not applicable."

I don't get it. Why are Active Directory Prestaged Devices only listed but not used?

Hi,

In my opinion, it's depends on WDS configuration whether it is Standalone or Active Directory Prestaged Devices.
