W8.1 inloggen met Live-id's

Hallo,

Ik wil graag onze school-uitleen-laptops, met Windows 8.1, zo maken dat alle leerlingen kunnen inloggen met hun live-id (bv leerling1 @ live.nl met het bijbehorende wachtwoord):
-Zonder vooraf op de laptop al die accounts aan te maken;

Oh, I'm sorry! I posted my question on the Dutch Microsoft Community. They advised me this forum and I copied it without even thinking about the language.
Okay, her it comes in my best English:

I'd like to configure our school-laptops, with Windows 8.1, in such a way that our students can log in with their live-id:
-Without pre-setting up the laptop with all (2500) accounts locally;
-It has to work at school nd at home.

For comparison:
By now we have several Chromebooks which can be lend by students and they log on to those devices with their school-gmail account, at school and at home.

Application:
In Holland Microsoft launched an Office 365 cloud for schools (a contract called E3). All students receive their own school-Live-account with OneDrive and Office 365 (that's cool!). Now I would like to be able to lend students, who need it, a school-laptop with Windows 8.1 to make their homework, at which they can login with their Live-id, at school and at home.

Hope my question is understandable!

Hi,

According to your description, you'd like to configure school laptop with Windows 8.1 for students. Microsoft also provide an Office 365 cloud so that all of these students can use their own Microsoft Account to use Office by free. They also can login the Laptop with their Microsoft Account. Isn't it?

So, what's your problem? Or is there any question during this configuration?

"you'd like to configure school laptop with Windows 8.1"

Correct!

"Microsoft also provide an Office 365 cloud so that all of these students can use their own Microsoft Account to use Office by free."

Correct!

"They also can login the Laptop with their Microsoft Account."

Not correct.

They cannot login the laptop with their Live-id (i.e. student0001 @ live.nl .. student2500 @ live.nl). I don't know how to configure the laptops to make this possible, without making all those accounts local on the laptop. That's my problem.

By now I can either:

  • Configure the laptop so they can login to our domain.
Problem then: They cannot login anywhere else than at school.
  • Configure the laptop with only one account so it logs on automatically.
Problem then: I want them to use an account of their own.

I need the third way: Configure the laptops so they can login with their own live-id wherever they have WIFI.
How do I do this?

Hi,

If these student account are Domain Account, you can attach their Microsoft Account (Live ID) to the Domain Account.

Open PC Settings, then choose Account, you will find the option.

On the other hand, you can create a new Microsoft Account instead of Local Account.

"If these student account are Domain Account, you can attach their Microsoft Account (Live ID) to the Domain Account."

That can only be done after they have once logged on on the laptop, otherwise they don't have a profile on the laptop.
And then they can only login when they are at school.
And then I have tot do this on every laptop manually for 2500 students.

"On the other hand, you can create a new Microsoft Account instead of Local Account."

Then I'd have to create 2500 accounts on these laptops, thats not funny.

No, I need a way they can logon with their live-id without creating local accounts manually.

Okay, I notice I'm not clear. Let's make it bigger.

I have a laptop and I let you configure it.

Now I get blindfolded and I give my laptop to someone in the world, I realy don't know who. That person does have a live-id. He opens my laptop and faces the Windows logon screen (so no desktop, for he has yet logged in). On the screen there is a WIFI button, he pushes it, fills in the WIFI credentials and it connects to his WIFI. Then he fills in his live-credentials and it works! He is now logged in in Windows, faces the desktop and can work with the laptop.

(notice: Without the WIFI connection he can't login)

Now, what did you do to configure it that way?

I stole the idea from Google: A chromebook does exactly this. And it gives our students such freedom. They can work at school, or at home (or sitting on terrace :)).

Hi,

According to your description, I'm afraid it's impossible to finish the job. Because, firstly, Microsoft Account couldn't be created as Domain Account, that means you couldn't logon Microsoft Account to the machine in Domain environment which just like a domain account.

Secondly, Windows Operating System doesn't permit account logon without created in the system. That's to say, you couldn't logon your Microsoft Account to every Windows System which just like ChromeBook installed Google Operating System.

For your problem, a workaround method you can use is that attact students Microsoft Account to Domain Account, then enable the cached credential so that students can also logon when they were at home. When then connect to their home WIFI, they can also use their Microsoft Account and Office.

Okay, thank you for your answers and patience. I hope some day it will be made possible.

Funny thing is: When I opened the laptop for the first time, it just came out of the shop, it did exactly that:

  1. It asked me to connect to my WIFI
  2. It asked me for my microsoft-ID.

So for the very first user it s possible. After that not anymore.

Well, then that's just the way it is. Thanks again.

Must I close this threat somehow, or is marking as answer enough?
