W7 printing from a 2003 Server
Hi, my PDC server is a WS08 R2 at our main site. I have a remote site that has a WS03 R2 server and this is a DC for some W7 clients at the site. These users do not have local admin rights on their machines. When they try and connect to network printers they get the UAC prompt for an admin account. I have changed the GP setting on our WS08 R2 server to prevent UAC and warnings, but these settings do not show on the remote WS03 R2 server. Will these users need to come up to the main site and connect to the LAN for the settings to take effect on their computers as their local DC is now WS08? Thanks

Hi, yes the server at the remote site is WS03 R2 and is a DC, File and print server. When they try to connect to a printer on this server they get the UAC admin prompt.

Updatwed: users have reported that they can now install network printers without getting the UAC prompt. Changing the GP settings on the HQ WS08 Dc must have taken effect somehow.

Hi, I want to verify the printer server is on Windows 2003 or Windows 2008? I suggest to change the policy for Windows 7 systems to allow non-admins to install printer drivers: 1 run gpedit.msc 2 under Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights assignments See Load and Unload device Drivers, then add User or Group 3 Click “OK” 4 Restart PC If it does not work, try to manually add shared printer on Windows 7 clients: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/2c055ac8-b79e-4f30-a53d-798e69ed8d2f/ Hope that helps.
