W7 & XP network questions and issues
Trying to setup home network with same machines but with 2 of the desktops recently upgraded to Windows 7 Pro. Here's the breakdown: 2 Desktops running new Windows 7 Pro systems - (hardwired) 1 Desktop running XP Pro SP3 - (hardwired) 2 laptops running XP Home Ed SP3 (Wireless) Found a couple previous posts here that should help me a lot in solving networking issues with my 2 new W7 Pro systems and 3 other XP PC's in our home network setup. But...can someone answer or point me to a site/page that answers these other querstions: 1) been told in another forum that a W7 & XP network must have IPv6 disabled in W7 registry ? 2) can you use WEP security with a router (hardwired & wireless) on home network W7 & XP Pro systems..?...or must I use only WPA or better ? Thanks...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/share-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-xp/1. Not so IP6 does not have to be disabled UNLESS the router you have does not support it and it causes you issues.2 WEP is not supported in windows 7 (well if it is it is FLAKY) use WPA2 or above (WPA is WEAK)

Hi,WEP encryption is supported in Windows 7. For more information, please refer to the following thread.Wired Equivalent ProtocolMeanwhile, if you would like to use HomeGroup between the Windows 7 machines, you should keep turning on IPv6 since it is one of core technology of HomeGroup. Otherwise, you can disable IPv6.Thanks,Novak
