W7RC x64: Increasing memory consumption during downloading
Hi, I asked this question in the "Getting Ready for Windows 7" forum and someone suggested I post my question here as well. I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me with this... I've been using the RC since it was released and the only real problem I've had was this: When I download many/large files using a download manager (doesn't matter which, Getright, Flashget, JDownloader etc.) my memory conspumption gradually increases until there's too little available memory for the system to function properly (95-96% physical memory full). I did not have this problem with the public beta and I'm virtually using the same set of software now as I did with the beta. None of the tasks seem to be consuming any more than they should but something's chewing up all my available ram. How can I find this leak? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards, B.

You may already know this. Downloading large files will be temporarily held in memory (temp file) and then moved to the drive. Another issue may be the download manager programs are designed to use resources for XP or Vista. You should use a Vista compatible version and install it by right clicking the exe file and choose the Vista compatible option for installation. Is your anti-virus grinding to scan everthing coming in on the download. Try one of these. I am a Kaspersky user user. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/antivirus-partners/windows-7.aspxHaveyou run the Software compatibilty tool on a machine with everthing that you use to determine if it willwork in Win 7? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=24da89e9-b581-47b0-b45e-492dd6da2971You needed to perform a clean install of Win 7 RC.Another consideration may be the use of a download manager. Do youhave a limited bandwidth connection? If you have DSL, cable, or FIOS you can get multiplelarge files quickly limited only by the rate of the server providing the file.

I was using Eset Nod32 which isn't present in the list of AV software recommended for using with Win7. In my previous attempts to solve the problem, I had disabled Nod32 but to no avail. It seems I actually had to uninstall it to get there and now it seems I have to find another AV software. Thanks for your help...
