W32 Blaster - Windows 7 - Home Computer - Working from Work PC
As noted by many others, I'm having exactly the same problem with the W32 Blaster worm on my home PC, however, I cannot do much on my home PC. I need options for downloading to my work PC to take home, then the specific steps I need to follow, please. I have a fully up-to-date version of McAfee Internet Security and I ran a full scan several times yesterday, McAfee doesn’t see it or try to fix it. There is an icon on the desk top called Security Protection. If this helps - the Desc is: Romihoeeewqueaukakroptnqj. The Target is: c:users\"my name"\appdata\roaming\defender.exe. File ver: 6.1.7600.16385. I tried to delete it, not allowed "system running." I rebooted MANY times, didn't fix anything. I have disconnected the internet connection in case any of my files or data are compromised. I have had McAfee installed on the infected machine for almost 3 years and have had no problems to date so I know this must be an unusual issue. I was surfing for kitchen tile yesterday when I got infected. I don't know how McAfee allowed it in. I’m not very comfortable in fixing these problems. I need help to fix it, please.

Boot the computer into Safe Mode by Pressing F8 during boot time. When into Safe Mode the computer should be fairly useable (in cases I have dealt with) Run MSConfig.exe and checkout the startup tab. Going through the list of startup applications you should be able to notice things that do not look right. Uncheck these, sometimes the location will be the giveaway. The file in question may be seen here. In safe mode you may be able to delete the file. In Safe mode you should be able to do a DiskCleanup and other cleanup tasks. Some software such as the one mentioned above can run in Safe Mode and help clean the system Hope these basic things can help Lee Bowman MCITP MCTS

shereehidalgo, dont use mcafee, it is not good at all (try to google some AntiVirus product reviews). I would recommend avast! free edition and Comodo free firewall. You can download these from any pcs and save them into usb (make sure you download 64bit version if u have a 64bit pc, otherwise download 32bit version). Plug the usb into the infected pc and run the installer (it is likely that you must first uninstall mcafee). So, the procedure is: 1. Do as what lee-bowman advises. 2. Uninstall McAfee. 3. Install avast and comodo. 4. If needed you can download and install the free version of SuperAntiSpyware (free version requires manual updating). Hope that helps.
