W2K and possible workarounds
Howdy folks,
Yes I know w2k has been discontinued from support. However, I'm attempting to help family with their given resources. I'm thinking that there's a workaround that I can program into the registry that will allow me to at least get a newer
version, other than 6 into their sys so that they can at least browse the internet and possibly go up on a game site/do email. No, they can't afford new anything. What I have tried is this so far but ALL to no avail.
1. Uninstalled with "Add Remove". Stopped @ "can't verify integrity of files to run the Cryptographic
Services. So, I manually started "Application Management", "Windows Istaller", and "NTLM
Security Support Provider". None of that worked.
2. Downloaded Revo Uninstaller and got stopped at, looped back to "Add Remove" dialogue and same
results. Re: #1 above, went thru ALL of the "Admin Tools" applet in CP and their associated
services, could not find "Cryptographic Services".
3. Tried to re-install IE 7...nuttin'! Darn it, so I'm hoping that one of y'all has tried this and found
registry fix/patch/tweak/workaround.
4. Any ideas, suggestions (lol, besides using sys as a boat anchor) that might work?
Thanks for any/all advice suggestions,
HoratioL

Are you trying to install a newer version of Internet Explorer?
You may have a bit of a struggle. I'd suggest an alternate broswer like Firefox or Chrome, but they require XP with SP2 or later.
I dunno. Ubuntu? Free, if you can afford the labor of switching to it.

Latest v. of Opera works just ^&*** great...super quick to load and navigate...puts on a LOT of mess in the temp folder (1.6 gb 2 b exact) with every session...but heck, it works, its SUPER FAST, and Free!! Whohoo!
Thanks for the suggestions
