Vista won't view network computers in Windows Server 2003 environment
We received a new computer this morning running Win Vista Business and I've been spending the morning trying to add it to our Windows Server 2003 network. I added it to the domain with no problems, as it found the domain controller and the system is viewable from the server (I did a remote install of Symantec Client Security from the server). However, it absolutely will not let me view any of the folders on the server. When I try to list the network files, it just shows an icon for the new machine with its computer name; there is no mention of the server anywhere. Google and the MS knowledge base have failed me thus far, so I thought I'd check here. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi snacknuts, May I know the detailed steps you used to view the folders on the server? Can you access the share folders on the server via UNC path? Additionally, please turn on Network discovery to check if it can address your requirement: 1. Open Network and Sharing Center 2. Click the arrow button to expand the section Network discovery 3. Select turn on network discovery, and then click Apply. Please check how it works. Thanks! Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

I came accross this post searching for a solution to my (similar) problem. I have a home business network with my file server hub being a Dell blade Network Attached Server with Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition. The rest of my computers are WinXP Professional and recently some Vista thrown in for good measure. I never was able to see my NAS (named Zion) in Windows Explorer from any of the computers on my network (Vista or XP). When I go to see My Network Places I can see all my other computers, just not the NAS. I can connect to the NAS by typing in the address bar the name "//Zion/Share". I also mapped the network drive to a letter "Z" so I can connect to it that way. It was just baffling that I can see all my other computers on my Workgroup, just not the most important one, the file server! NowI have my iTunes Library on the NAS and am trying to control it from the Vista computer and each time I rip CDs using iTunes, the program fails to see Zion (the NAS) and place the MP3 files on the file server. I set Network Discovery to ON on the Vista computer but still it does not show the Zion server (though it shows all my other computers on the network). How can I make the Win2003 server appear displayed, alongside the other computers on my Workgroup, in My Network Places"? Plain English please; I am not a server administrator... Thanks for any insight or advise!!!
