Vista won't connect to any web site at all.
Hello and thank you for reading my post. I'll get to the point.I updated my Firefox browser through an automatic update. After the update, I went right on the internet and I could not load any website at all. So I thought it was just something with Firefox, so I tried using IE. IE does not want to work at all either. Other things like Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger works fine and connects with no problem, however, when I want to view a web page I cannot. I searched forums throughout the whole internet including this one to see what can solve this problem. I tried what Robin Meng posted, and it didn't work for me. On Firefox I keep clicking and typing in websites and it doesn't want to connect to anything at all. I just keep getting how it cannot display the webpage. On IE, same thing. I tried diagnosing it tons of times and nothing works at all. I really cannot afford to reinstall the whole thing. I already have a lot of my work saved on my laptop. I'm posting this from my desktop computer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Also I don't have any firewalls connected either. They are turned off. I DMZ my connection as well through my router. It doesn't work in safe mode with networking either. I turned off all the services, nothing.

Hi Fudatzkeee, First, please check if the DNS works fine in the environment. To do this, follow these steps: 1. On the Windows Vista machine, Open Command Prompt (cmd.exe). 2. In Command Prompt, type nslookup www.microsoft.com and press Enter. 3. Please let me know the result. Meanwhile, please capture the error message in IE for me. Regarding the issue, Ive included some related articles for your reference: How to troubleshoot network connectivity problems in Internet Explorer http://support.microsoft.com/?id=936211 You receive an error message in Internet Explorer 7: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" http://support.microsoft.com/?id=926431 How to troubleshoot compatibility problems that affect Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/?id=936214 Hope it helps.

Hi Joshon Zhou, thank you for your reply I have the same problem, and all those solutions didn't help at all. There must be something wrong from windows update that kill the internet browser. It happened after installing the windows update. I tried to go back to restore point to previous state, and it's still the same, even to the previous day. None of internet browsers able to connect to internet, but other things connected, such as yahoo messenger, msn, aim, etc. I believe lots of Vista users experienced the same. Can you guys do something about it? We really appreciate if moderators can help us as soon as possible. Thank you very much. AMD Turion 64X2 2 GB RAM 160GB OS: Windows Vista

Hi Mamora, I would like to know what network adapter is being used on the Windows Vista machine. Meanwhile, please perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue: 1. Create a new user account, then logon with the new account and check the result. 2. Check the system files by using the SFC.exe. Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop respondinghttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 Hope it helps.

My sister-in-law presentedher HP Pavilion tx1320notebook to me withthe same problem. The networkconnection worked except forthe browsers.I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting but this took me over 3 hours to figure out. Turns out one of the 5 Microsoft Security Updates downloaded April 8th or 9th restricted her connectivity. I was too tired to isolate which one it was and just removed them all. Works now. FYI - Be sure to disable automatic Microsoft Updates or you'll be back where you started.

If you did a Windows Update around the 8/9th of this month. Its a Windows Update error. Sadly this is a Windows Update caused error. Its update KB947864. Microsoft Help and support has the following pages: 1) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/9478642) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942818I uninstalled update KB947864 and the Internet Explorer and Firefox worked like a champ. Its a shame that they cause their own programs to stop working. The second link is a "resolution" they have, however they want the user to contact a third party vendor to solve the issue. I found it much easier to uninstall the update.
