Vista using Netbios instead of DNS
Hi, We'rehaving a problem where Vista is using NetBIOS to resolve all DNS queries, using DHCP. Since it can't resolve requests like www.yahoo.com, the browser hangs with the URL shown as http:/// DHCP server is windows server 2003, with DHCP Options 44 and 46 (H-Type) enabled. The Vista client is a fresh install. Any ideas ona resolution? Thanks, Andrew

Hi Andrew, Thank youfor your post. Firstly, may know the following: 1. Where is DNS locates (internal DNS or ISPs DNS)? 2. How did you notice Windows Vista is using NetBIOS to resolve all DNS queries? At this time, please also try the following suggestions to narrow down the issue 1. Please check if you can access other computers (both servers and clients) on your network. If you have a interal website, can the Windows Vista computer access it? 2. Please check whether the issue occurs on all computers there on the same network. 3. Please let me know which browser you were using to access the websites; and if you try to access IP address instead of the URL, how it works? Please also run ipconfig/all on the problematic computer and post the report and we will perform some further research. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
