Vista network shares not accessible
I'm having an odd issue with a client's Vista machines, and I think I might just be missing something simple. For the sake of this post, I've used random names for the user accounts. System 1 : -Vista Home Premium x32 SP2 -4 local users (2 admin, 2 standard, guest acct OFF) -Bob, Sally are admins. Lisa and Tyler are standard System 2 : -Vista Home Premium x64 SP2 -1 local user (1 admin, guest acct OFF) -Bob is the only user account Both systems are using the exact same passwords for the admin accounts. The standard users are not password protected, however they're not part of this problem. -Password protected sharing is OFF on System 1, ON on System 2 -Workgroup name is Workgroup -Public folder sharing is ON -Printer sharing is ON -Network type is set to private Shares : System 1 - "C:\Users\Bob" ... "C:\Users\Sally", Both have the 'Everyone' group set to Full Control System 2 - "C:\Users\Bob" ... "E:" (external HDD), Both have the 'Everyone' group set to Full Control The Problem : When attempting to access System 1's shares, I can only access "C:\Users\Bob" and the usual public folders. When attempting to access the "sally" share, I get an error stating that the requested network resource is unavailable. When attempting to access ANYTHING on System 2 from System 1, I'm given a password dialog box. Regardless of what I enter, or how I enter it, it refuses the password. This is despite the fact that I'm attempting to access System 2 from the Bob user account, and both have the same user/password combination. The Bob account on both systems were created by me from scratch, and were never named anything else. I did this because the original Bob user account on System 2 had been 'Owner' and changed to 'Bob'...so everything on the backend still thought the account name was 'Owner'. Am I missing something here ? Essentially the client would like to be able to access all the User\* folders on System 1 from System 2, using only one user account on System 2. The client is running the Rogers security software package, if that's of any relevance. Everything seems kosher in it's firewall properties. Appreciate the help... Cheers

Hi, Thank you for posting. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Go to Networking and Sharing Center and turn off Password Protected Sharing on both computers. 2. Disable sharing and re-creates again referring to the following document: Share files and folders over the network http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/3a2b9561-9042-41d5-8e5a-ef6cea0b63eb1033.mspx Meanwhile, I would like to share the following with you: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx Hope this helps.
