Vista more secure than XP ever was! Good job Microsoft and Symantec for providing a great addition!
Dear Lance: After reading your article entitled Are You Stealing Vista?, I must comment on a few things here that are commonly misplaced and misunderstood in the computing world by especially business and consumers. First of all, I am a happy Vista Ultimate user and even feel 64-bit should replace 32-bit as soon as possible, not only because CPU processors in computers are 64-bit mainstream, but also because it does more and is more secure as well. But Vista alone is proven much more secure than XP ever was and certainly more so than any other operating system to date that I have found and used personally. I stick with Windows and Office because not only are they centered on the broad scope of computing, they are more widely used and accepted, plus you can find more software for Windows than any other operating system, and that will not change either obviously. I do recommend keeping Access User Control active and also using Norton Internet Security 2008 instead of the general firewall that comes with Windows, since that is Symantecs expertise for including a firewall, anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-phishing, and Windows user protection for less than 50 dollars a year. To the user that said you stripped most features is ignorant because in using Vista, more is actually added, updated and made better and faster. The internet pages load up without a hitch and much faster and smoother. All the updates worked perfectly and all video, sound and media is better and richer in presentation. The Dreamscene moving wallpapers are incredible, realistic and unique. The widgets are a great addition and the security cannot be beat hands down. Most people do not know what they are dealing with because they are too busy making excuses for why they dont want to upgrade, spend money and use a better operating system. XP is OUTDATED and I am glad Microsoft is not going to support it anymore eventually. I recommend all businesses and consumers, especially for security to upgrade NOW. You can use a USB high speed device as a great speed-up paging file to, which is unheard of before as another great feature. I can go on and on, but you get the idea. Vista is NOT XP and the interface is more graphical, detailed and versatile. The updates are done in Windows now which is really great and time saving, and not a crash or a problem at all to date. But then most of that is the consumers problem for not keeping their software and operating system updated, and companies not valuing security of employees and customers by spending money they KNOW they have and SHOULD give out for updated and necessary security. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard and seen peoples lives destroyed because of this. Dont let it happen to you. Go Vista all the way, and when, AND IF Windows 7 comes out or is an upgrade, then upgrade again. ALWAYS STAY UP-TO-DATE with the current Windows operating system. I guarantee you if you would see the broken lives on business members and consumers who have been hurt by not wanting to dish out an extra 200 to 300 dollars for single use or for license rates for an updated and more secure Windows, then you would clearly see. Humdreds of thousands and even millions of dollars have been lost and identity theft galore because of it. Again, DONT LET IT HAPPEN TO YOU AND DONT SAY IT WONT OR CANT. Point being, the only truest guarantee you have at all is what I just spoke of above. Thank you Microsoft. Yours truly, Ernie Mink Northglenn, CO 80233
