Vista loses connection, and fails to reconnect
My Sony Vaio TZ11MN running Vista has recently developed a fault. It was working fine up till a few weeks ago, but now it will from time to time drop the connection to my access point, and never recover. Here's what I see happening. I will be browsing web pages with no problems, then suddenly the connection drops and I have no internet access. I open the connection manager and I see that the connection is showing good signal strength but "connected with limited access". If I hit the rescan button, or alternatively disconnect from the network and try to reconnect again, I now see no wireless networks at all (I can usually see mine, and next door's). The only thing that works is to restart the machine, whereupon I see all available networks again and it connects fine. Generally it will work for 20 minutes or so then the same thing happens again, and I have to restart again. I'd be very grateful for any help, or suggestions.

Hi, Thank you for the post. Before we go further, I would like to confirm the following points with you: 1. Was any step performed before the issue occurred? 2. What is the manufacturer and model of the network adapter and the Access Point? Meanwhile, please refer to the following suggestions for troubleshooting: 1. Please contact the manufacturer of the Access Point to confirm if the product is fully compatible with Windows Vista, because network architecture in Windows Vista is updated (including a fully redesigned TCP/IP protocol stack). 2. Please install the latest driver for the network adapter. If available, please replace it with another network adapter to check if the issue disappears. 3. Please perform Windows Update and install all available update packets. 4. Please log into Safe Mode with Networking. If the issue does not occur under Safe Mode with Networking, please refer to the KB article 929135 for troubleshooting:How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/?id=929135 5. If it is a mobile PC, please refer to the following KB article:You may experience connectivity issues or performance issues when you connect a mobile PC that is running Windows Vista to a wireless access pointhttp://support.microsoft.com/?id=928152 Hope it helps.
