Vista line drop issue
I use Vista Ultimate x64 edtion on my laptop computer. It always drop network connection when I use it. The MSN and other instant messenger drop while I was chating with friend. I notice that the connection icon is "local only"(without a small ball on it). Then I click into the network center, there is a red cross between getway and Internet. Then I change from WLAN to LAN. The issue remains. Sometimes, the line is not drop, but it always identify network on the network node(shows Identifying). What does that happen? It is quite unplease to meet the drop line issue. I have googled through the net and found many people complain the same situation. Could someone please give me any workaround?VisFans

Hi,Do you have a WinXP machine to test if you are getting the same issue? If non-Vista machines work, please try the following:1. Disable IPv6. (Start -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage Network Connections -> Properties of LAN or WLAN -> Untick IPv6)2. Update your router's firmware3. Change router (and see if it's a compatibility issue with the router and Vista)Jabez Gan [MVP] - http://www.msblog.org Contributing Author for: (Sybex) MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration Study Guide: Exam 70-643

Thank you Jabez Gan,The issue never occur on XP. Only on Vista. I have followed you suggestion to disable IP v6, it seems reduce the probability of drop line. Thank you very much for the hint.VisFans
