Vista home netorking problem
I have aVista Home Premium desktop with printer attached & an XP Pro laptop. I have been trying to home network them by following the help instructions. I cannot see thelaptop from the desktop. I can see the desktop from the laptop, but when I try to open it I get "not available, you might not have permission...". Also when I search for a printer I can see the desktop PC, it won't expand & I can't see theattached printer. Imade sure that access rights for the sharing include the "everyone" group. Vista desktop has File & print sharing enabled & I have shared the printer. What the heck is going on?

Do you have a firewall program either Norton, ZoneAlarm, or Windows LiveOneCare installed on either PC? If so, you need to make sure you have it properly configured. An improperly configured firewall can block file and printer sharing. -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Networking) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com

When I try to add the printer to a laptop running XP pro I get the warning saying the printer driver will automatically installed on the laptop. When I click on "Yes" button I get the following dialog: "The server for the 'hp laser jet 3030 pcl 5' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to search for the proper driver, click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel and contact your network administrator or original equipment manufacturer for the correct printer driver." Anyone hit this issue?

I have the same issue and get a very similar message when trying to get a Canon MP830 on Vista home premium 64 bit, to share the printer with my PC running XP Pro. I haven't been able to find a solution yet. Still searching. If anyone has a workable answer I'd sure like to hear it. thanks all Here's what it looks like: ---------------------------Connect to Printer---------------------------The server for the 'Canon Inkjet MP830 Series' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to search for the proper driver, click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel and contact your network administrator or original equipment manufacturer for the correct printer driver.---------------------------OK Cancel --------------------------- ---------------------------Install Driver---------------------------Windows cannot locate a suitable printer driver. Contact your administrator for help locating and installing a suitable driver.---------------------------OK --------------------------- I downloaded the correct driver from Canon site and still get the above messages.

I am having the same issue with my HP 2550. The printer is attached to an XP machine running SP3 and of course works for my other XP machines.I have been to the HP site and downloaded the printer driver. When I run the install, I am able to see the printer and when I select it I get this message:"the server for the 'hp color LaserJet 2550 PCL 6' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. If you want to search for the proper driver, click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel and contact your network administrator or original equipment manufacturer for the correct printer driver.'So I click OK and a dialog pops up that lets me browse a path, so I select the directory where the HP drivers reside andclick OK. Then I get this error..."Windows cannon locate a suitable printer driver. Contact your administrator for help locating and installing a suitable driver."Any ideas? As I say I start the whole process by launching the install that comes with the HP drivers recommended for Vista 64.As a side note, I've looked at the printer settings on the XP machine that shares the printerand it allows one to add drivers for older operating systems ME, NT etc. but of course not Vista. Is there an update for XP that allows this?
