Vista cannot connect to D-Link router
I have installed vista ultimate. I have D-link router and it is conected to comcast modem. If I connect directly to cable modem vista is getting network connection. If I connect to router it is not working. Router is fairly new and in D-link website it says it should not have any issues with vista. I tried by disabling the IPV6. still it does not work. -W

Having the exact same problem with XP on my Desktop. Worked with Microsoft Techs for many hours, and still no luck. Using our old Dell Laptop with a wireless PCI card, running Windows ME,it connects to the router perfectly with no problem. I thought perhaps the Desktop wireless card was the problem, but on boot-up,it connects automatically to my neighbor's nework next door (which I am sure he doesn't appreciate), even though the signal strength is very low. Obviously the wireless adapter must be working, as it picks up the neighbor's, and two others up the street, anddoes show myhome networkon "available networks" with very good signal strength. But when I try to manually connect, the green dots just keep going back and forth, but no connection. Even more strange, every so often when I do boot up the desktop, it DOES pick up my home network. But when I click on Internet Explorer, it won't "surf" past the home page. When I reconnect to my neighbor's network, even with a very weak signal, the Internetworks fine. One person suggested changing the channel on mt desktop wireless card, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Any ideas?

I just experienced exactly the same problem here. After a lot struggling and debugging, it turns out I turned on "MAC address filtering" on my D-link router and as i was using a brand new computer with brand new Vista, no wonder it couldn't get an IP addr.

An outdated network router may not function correctly when you use it together with new networking features in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/932134
