Hi alphatoner, I would like to confirm the following items with you: 1. Are all the machines located in the same subnet? Are they connected to the same router? 2. Can you access the share folders on other machines from the Windows Vista computer? To check it, please perform the following steps:---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------2.1 On Windows Vista machine, click Start, type \\<IP_address_of_a_XP_machine>\<share_folder>, and press Enter.2.2 Confirm if the you can access the share folder. If any error is received, please capture a screenshot of the error message for further research. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Hi and thank you for your response. To answer your questions Yes they are on the same subnet (I have tried assigning ip address, which gives a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and using DHCP Yes there is only one router The VIsta Machine could see none of the other machines on its network map and none of the other machine coud see it. After searching the net I have found the LLTDfix for XP I have loaded this onto one of my XP machines. This machine now shows up on the vista network map display and strangly so does one of the NAS drives but in the latter case it shows as stand alone. Although visible the the XP machine is not accessible from the vista machine, the XP has a single shared folder with full permissions. The Vista Machine is still not visible on the XP machine. There appears to be no LLTD fix for Windows 2000 or for other devices (nas drives) I have done the test yu suggested and got the following message (can't do screen shots i'm afraid) Network Error Windows cannot access \\192.168.1.66\downloads Check the spelling, otherwise there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click diagnose Error code 0x80070035 The netwrok path was not found I also tried this again with my router IP 192.168.1.1 and got the same result, which is odd because the machine can access the internet happily via the router. Anything else i should try Ian

Hi lan, I noticed that you had tried to turn off firewall. However, based on the Error code 0x80070035, I still suspect that certain firewall blocks the connection. Please temporarily turn off the firewall, especially the one in Router to check the result. If the issue persists, please capture the network packets for further research: ==================================== 1) Download NetMon3.1 from the following website and install it on both machines:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=18b1d59d-f4d8-4213-8d17-2f6dde7d7aac&DisplayLang=en2) Log onto the machines with the account that is a member of administrators group and launch NetMon3.1. For Windows Vista, please right-click the Netmon icon and select Run as Administrator to launch NetMon3.1.3) In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.1 window, click Create a new capture tab4) In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window.5) After that, press F10 to start NetMon.Note Please start NetMon on both machines.6) On the Windows Vista machine, reproduce the issue by performing the following step:Click Start, type \\192.168.1.66\downloads and press Enter.7) Onece the issue reoccurs, go back to the Netmon window and press F11 to stop the Netmon on both machines.9) Press Ctrl+S to save the netmon files.10) After that, please upload the files to the following space:https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=0e6bd976-8b22-4d6c-873d-e80e69e9d87bPassword: 2#J[3k[BL5c2 Note: Please let me know the IP address of the Windows Vista and Windows XP computers. Please post a quick note in the current thread to inform me after uploading the information. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support

Hi Joson Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, decided that i would remove all software installed since machine was purchased also disabled vista security and firewall settings. and All machines now visible and accessible in both directions I will now gradulally re-install and re-test after each to see if i can identify which is causing problem. Although i suspect AVG, even though disabled i have a feeling it might still have been running something in the background. Anyway you can assume problem is solved unless i get back to you. thanks for your help. Ian

Joson, I have a problem accessing my NAS drives. The LLTD protocol Hot Fix solved my XP problem but the NAS servers have a proprietary OS. No support is available for them. (ADStech NAS-806). What can I do to loosen the security? I was able to view all my PCs and /devices at one time. My 1st cousin works with you guys. steve.mclamb@microsoft.com. He writes you license agreements. (Lawyer) He is a very smart dude. Thanks in advance for you help! -Brent
