Vista can't enable file sharing
I'm trying to share music files from my Vista home PC with my XP computer in my basment. When I try to share a folder from the Vista c drive, it gives me an error saying, "unable to share this folder". But... The folder icon will then display with the little sharing symbol on top and it will show up in networking (my network places) as a share. In Vista networking, if I try to double click the share to open it, it will give me an error saying, "the share is not available or spelled inccorectly" The Vista computer can see and access the XP shares. The XP computer cannot see the Vista shares. I have tried changing permissions, workgroup names, NIC, user accounts, static IPs. I have exhausted my knowledge of networking with this. It seems to me there is a problem with my Vista installation. My network configuration is this - The Vista and XP computer connect via ethernet through a ADSL modem/router, which in turn is connected to the internet. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Hi, Thank you for the post. Please confirm which folder you are trying to share. Meanwhile, please refer to the following article and try to create a new share folder on Windows Vista to troubleshoot the issue: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx If the error message unable to share this folder reoccurs, please capture a screenshot for further research. Hope it helps. Have a nice day. Sincerely, Joson Zhou Microsoft Online Community Support
