Vista can't connect to my Windows 7 VPN
I setup a win7 machine to accept incoming vpn connections. On a different win7 machine, I successfully connected to this VPN through the internet. But a Vista machine can't connect at all. It says "verifying username and password" but I doubt it's getting that far. I don't think the 2 machines are communicating at all, because the error message after that just says "failed to connect" (not "username or password incorrect" or anything like that). I know the server is setup right because the other win7 machine connects to it successfully (through the internet, not only through LAN). On the win7 server's router, I have the port opened and forwarded to the server. I don't have access to the router of the vista machine, but I don't think that should matter 1: because it's only the client, not the server, and 2: with the win7 client I didn't have access to the router either and it didn't have any problem. So I think it must be a problem within the vista machine, but I can't figure out why it won't connect.

Hi, First of all, please make sure you have turned on Remote desktop on Windows Vista. Right click on Computers, Propertise, Remote settings on the left panel, click the “Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop” radio button. Please disable your firewall or antivirus software as a test. Meanwhile, you can use tools and commands to troubleshoot virtual private network (VPN) connections, for detailed information, please refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754825(WS.10).aspx and Configuring Packet Filters for a VPN Server for your information. Hope it helps. Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
