Vista blocks software distribution
I have System Center Configuration Manager successfully pushing unattended installs of QuickTime to Windows XP. However, all attempts to push to Vista Enterprise, both 32 and 64 bit versions, are failing. I have tried both copying the package to the Vista machine's client cache and also running fro the SCCM server. It appears to me that some Vista mechanism is blocking the installation. In the execmgr.log (both x86 and x64versions of Vista) file that last entry is always: <![LOG[Execution Request for package SC10000C program Per-system unattended Vista state change from WaitingDependency to WaitingContent]LOG]!><time="15:30:04.989+360" date="02-14-2008" component="execmgr" context="" type="1" thread="5896" file="executionrequest.cpp:486"> I am guessing there is some GP I need to change to stop whatever "protection" mechanism is keeping this from working.Anyone know what might be doing the blocking? My online searches have come up empty as well as my posts on the SCCM Software Distribution forum.

Hi SnoBoy, Please try to double-click the QuickTime installation file to install it directly (not unattended install) on Windows Vista computer and then check the result. If it successes, it should be an issue related to System Center Configuration Manager. I suggest submitting this issue to System Center Configuration Manager forum (http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/default.aspx?ForumGroupID=488&SiteID=17). The support professionals there are better equipped to assist you. If it fails, I suggest contacting Apple to check if the product version is fully compatible with Windows Vista. I startedon the SCCM forumfirst and they suggested posting here. The installation package works fine when manually run from the server share wherethe package is located. No surprise that we have no plans to roll out Vista. ;-) I guess I will keep playing with my test Vista machine.

Hi SnoBoy, Could you please let me know the original thread's URL? I would like to check it first. Meanwhile, we can try the following steps to narrow down the cause of this issue: 1. Temporarily turn off UAC on the Windows Vista:1.1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.1.2. In Control Panel, click User Accounts.1.3. In the User Accounts window, click User Accounts.1.4. In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off.1.5. If UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears. Then Click Continue. 1.6. Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click OK. 1.7.Restart computer to apply the change. 2. Use a cleanly install Windows Vista (without applying any group policy) to see if the issue occurs. 3. Try different configurations in SCCM. For example, deploy the QuickTime software by using local System or current logon user's credentials, to see if there is any difference. Hope it helps. http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2838303&SiteID=17 is the original link with all of the logs listed. UAC is already turned off. I will have to try using a different account, however, one would think that the Enterprise Administrator account *ought* to work for installation. ;-)

Tried the install with NTsystem, didn't work either. Triedrunning abatch file that pointed to the SCCM server's location to run it from, told it to run from the server(not downloading first)still no luck. Always get the same stupid result i the execmgr.log: <![LOG[Execution Request for package SC10000C program Per-system unattended Vista state change from WaitingContent to WaitingContent]LOG]!><time="15:42:29.248+360" date="02-19-2008" component="execmgr" context="" type="1" thread="3728" file="executionrequest.cpp:486"> Shoot, with as few Vista machine as I have to mess with, it would be easier to PSEXEC it. What a pain! Vista is so secure, it isn't manageable.
