Vista blocked ports with pptp VPN
I have a PPTP server running on a linksys RV042 router. I have no issue connecting to the router with either my vista or XP notbooks but the problem is that on the Vista machince the VOIP softphone for my NEC telephone system will not work, it works fine on the XP machine through PPTP and works on both machines local in the network. I can ping and connect to the NEC system but not connect the softphone. Are there any ports that Vista blocks by default? I have tried turning off the firewall and still the same thing, VOIP work on the XP machine with the firewall, I had to add it to the firewall policy on both machines. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, This behavior is most likely caused by the settings of some setting of the PPTP server on the router. Additionally, some security programs may block related ports either. I suggest that you disable the installed anti-virus and firewall first. If the issue persists after you disable the anti-virus and firewall, there are nothing else we can do on the Windows Vista system. Please contact NEC support and ask if there is any settings required on the PPTP server. Then properly configure the PPTP server. https://www.nec.com/cgi-bin/contact/select_qc.cgi If there is any question regarding how to configure settings on the router, contact Linksys support. http://www-in.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Content_C1&childpagename=IN%2FLayout&cid=1137451195975&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper#1148434468058 Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support.
