Vista and XP Networking
I have an XP and a vista computers connected thru Linksys WTR54G-TM router. XP uses Netgear WG111v3 wireless card, connects to router with 64 bit WEP security key. I recently added Norton 360 2007 software. Norton is configured to trust networked devices and allow NetBios names, file and printer sharing. Vista has SP1, XP has SP3. LLTD is installed on Vista, XP does not allow LLTD i assume its in the SP3.(somehow i dont see LLTD protocol on XP). I also noticed that RPC has no services assigned. I tried to change but to luck, i tried to assign Windows Locator service, when i pick it and check back, Name service provider has neother services, its blank.XP computer does not see Vista.Vista can see XP but can not access shared files and printer. Both computers are properly configured for peer to peer networking. Each computer can ping each other. They are under same workgroup.Print and file sharing is assigned properly on each computers. I have another XP computer i occasionaly connect to workgruop. 2 XP computers see each and can share files and printers. Please help.

Hi, Firstly, may I know if the share between the Windows XP and Windows Vista computers worked before? I would like to provide the following suggestions: 1. Let's check the basic networking and security settings first: a. Check both Sharing and Security settings on both of the computers, and make sure that you have assigned the Full-Control permissions to Everyone. Alternatively, you can disable the sharing of the target and then share it again with the default settings. b. Ensure you log on the both computers with the Administrator account. c. The firewall on the both computers are configured to allow the Files and Printer sharing. d. Ping the bother computers each other using both IP Address and Computer Name. And try to access the share with the type of \\computer name\folder on both computers. If the checks above have all passed, please continue the troubleshooting with the following steps: 2. This issue can also be resulted by the factor that some third party security software or firewall blocked the access between the Windows XP and the Windows Vista computers. Lets perform a Clean Boot to check our issue. How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 How to perform advanced clean-boot troubleshooting in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316434 3. Please check if the Windows Vista laptop can be seen or accessed by another Windows XP computer as you mentioned, and also try to access the Windows XPs share folder from the Windows Vista. Please let me know how is this going. Thanks! Nicholas Li - MSFT

i found the problem. Thanks all the parties who responded. It was Linksys WRT54G-TM router. It does not allow printer and file sharing. Neither Linksys or T-Mobile knew the issue. I got another router, without changing networking i was able to see and accessshared files and printers. What a nightmare.
