Vista and GPO issues - network issue
We have an extensive network with mostly XP machines and a few Vista machines. We run GPO logon scripts that map drives, etc. Issue: 1. All XP machines run GPO's without issue. 2. Vista machines randomly will run the logon scripts. When testing it seems that the Vista machines don't receive a DHCP address quick enough and the machine never "sees" the logon script. It never executes it. Once the Vista machine is logged in I can go to the actual logon script and double-click it and it runs without issue and maps everything correctly. Anyone run into this or know what is happening? I am local administrator on vista machine, no firewall issues since it will randomly work. Reserved DHCP address doesn't make a difference. No security warnings etc when executing the logon script directly after logon has completed. Is there a way to make Vista wait until an IP address is applied before accessing the GPO's? I can't add any "sleep" commands, etc within the logon script since the Vista machine doesn't ever see the GPO to apply the sleep command within the script. Am about to test static IP to see if this makes a difference, but this won't be a permanent fix since Vista rollouts for us can't be static. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jeff EDIT: I must keep UAC enabled with any scenario or resolution.

Hi Jeff, To narrow down the cause of the issue, I agree that we perform a test by assigning a static IP address to the Windows Vista machine first. In fact, there is a know issue related to logon script when logging onto Windows Vista with an administrator account. For more information, please visit the following link and refer to the Group Policy Scripts can fail due to User Account Control section: http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/5ae8da2a-878e-48db-a3c1-4be6ac7cf7631033.mspx?mfr=true If the issue is resolved by using static IP address, you can turn off Fast Logon to check the result. To turn off Fast Logon Optimization, please enable the following policy: Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System \ Logon \ Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon Hope it helps.
