I have talked to the I.T help desk and they said their is no reason that the wireless won't work on vista and will work on xp.So i m thinking its something to do with the security settings or some setting that i m missing. anyone got any ideas on how to get vista to connect to the wireless at tafe? Thanks

Does the issue occurs on all of the Windows Vista computers, or it only occurs on your Windows Vista computer? If it occurs on other Windows Vista computers either, please contact the helpdesk again and confirm the connection is compatible with Windows Vista. However, if it only occurs on your computer. I suggest that you disable the anti-virus and firewall, then try to connect again. If the issue persists, try to reinstall the network adapter driver. 1. Click Start, click Run, type in "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. In Device Manager, double click to expand the "Network Adapters" branch. 3. Right click your network adapters listed under "Network Adapters", and click Uninstall to uninstall the driver. 4. Click Start, in the Start Search box type "appwiz.cpl" and press Enter. 5. Find the entry of the network driver, and uninstall it.6. Please reinstall the driver with the driver CD. Does the issue still occur? If so, please manually create a wireless network connection.
