Vista Windows Live Messenger Remote Assistance
Can anyone help me? I upgraded to Vista Ultimate (clean install onto new hard drive) and cannot get remote assistance to work. When someone requests RA I respond "accept" - as I used to under XP - but nothing happens under Vista - New window does not open. If the requestor requests RA to my XP machine (which is connected to the same Linksys WRT54G router), RA works fine. Running WLM Version 2008 (Build 8.5.1302.1018) on Vista. Vista is SP1 with all latest updates. Both machines connected to router using same Norton Internet Security. Please help or refer me to someone who can. Thanks.

Hi, Please understand that RA function is belongs to Windows Live Messenger, not a Windows Vista function. And I cannot re-produce your problem in my test environment. Given the situation, I suggest you contact Windows Live Messenger Support to address the problem. Thank you for your cooperation. Windows Live Support https://support.live.com Hope it helps.

Vista-to-Vista works fine using this WLM RA after I had the requestor change their network to "Private" from "Public" in "Network and Sharing Center."There is a password exchange that occursand that is new with Vista. However, if an XP user requests assistancefrom my Vista machine, nothing happens. No request for a password comes up. It just hangs. Is there a setting in XP that is equivalent to the "private" setting in Vista?Once the requestor changed that setting in Vista, as I said, it worked.Doug Nielsen
