Vista WPA Problem
Here's a weird oneI work for Comcast Cable and we currently use a Netgear WGR614 as our router for our Home Networking service. Here's the problem we have been running into:If this router is configured for WPA for the encryption, when a Windows Vista computer connects to the router everything seems fine. Vista pulls a valid IP address and you are able to Ping any website. Once a web browser is opened, the only website that loads is Google (Possibly others but haven't checked too many sites). You can get to any site inside Google including news, images, etc. It is def. loading new data not cached data. Any other website will NOT load. You will get page cannot be displayed. Firewalls, security, etc was all checked. I have personally seen this on many occasions even on Brand New laptops. If you configure WEP for the encryption, everything works flawlessly. Is there a HotFix for this issue or is Vista just not fully compatible with WPA. I have, on the other hand, seen a few laptops work with WPA. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason why this isn't working.Any thoughts???

Hi, On the Netgears site, I find that the WGR614 may not compatible with Windows Vista. we can see WGR614 v1 to v5 have been discontinued, no updates planned. on the following page: http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101649_all.asp Therefore, your router may not work properly with Windows Vista computers. Having said that, I would like to suggest the following to check the issue. If the issue is still not resolved after trying, I suggest that you contact Netgear for assistance. 1. Please check the network status when the issue occurs. 1) Check if you can access your routers management site. 2) Ping the router with IP address 3) Ping some sites to see if it works. 4) run the following command: >nslookup >www.microsoft.com (you can also check with some other URLs which you usually use.) Will the correct IP address be returned? 5) Please run CMD and then ipconfig /all to export all the network settings and post the information to this thread. 2. Change the router option "DHCP Server Selection" from "AUTOMATIC" to "MANUAL". 3. Manually assign IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the DNS settings referring to your routers settings to see if this works. 4. Try the following test. Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool https://www.microsoft.com/windows/using/tools/igd/results.mspx However, if the issue still persists, please contact Netgear for further troubleshooting. http://www.netgear.com/Support.aspx Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support.
