Vista Upgrade before Windows 7?
I have Vista upgrade (that I would upgrade my Windows XP Media to) but have chosen to stay w/XP. Would it make sense to upgrade to Vista so that I did not have to do a "clean install"......but just a regular upgrade?

'Jbar7',You are best to do a clean no matter what. So, would suggest you don't bother w/ anything except going clean, straight to Windows7.ThanksDrew - MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres. Computer Issues

Hi jbar7, First, I would like to tell you that you can choose the Upgrade option to upgrade XP to Vista first, then upgrade Vista to Windows 7. Its better to run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to check if the XP OS is ready for an upgrade. You can get the tool from the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx After you upgrade to Vista, you can try the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to check if our system is ready for Windows 7, It can help you aviodpotential issues with your hardware, devices, and installed programs. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx After that, you can refer to the following link to receive your Windows 7 upgrade.http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/offers/upgrade-option.aspxI hope this help! Thanks!John Zhu

Hi, Here is my suggestion. First, upgrade Windows XP to Windows Vista is limited, so make sure if the Windows Vista disk you have can help upgrade current Windows XP system. If not, we will fail to perform an in-place upgrade. Here is the path. The same as Windows 7 --- here is the upgrade path of upgrading Windows Vista to Windows 7. I need to say that we cannot guarantee if programs can still work after perform 2 upgrades. Thus I think perform a Clean Install on Windows XP system is much easier. We can use Windows Easy Transfer to backup and transfer files. Detailed steps can be found here. Note: Programs will need to be reinstalled on Windows 7.
