Vista Updates KB958690 and KB960225 cause network problems
I installed updates KB958690 and KB960225 for Windows Vista yesterday. One of them was responsible that neither my ethernet nor wifi connections worked. I deinstalled both updates and I'm online again. I can't tell which of them caused the problem though. Anyone experienced similar problems?I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.

Hi, Thank you for posting. May I know if you have installed some security software (anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, etc.) on the Windows Vista computer? If so, please let me know its detail information such as brand, edition, version, etc. I suspect this should be a compatibility issue. If there is some software conflicts with the updates, the function or performance of the system may be affected. Therefore, please check the software recently installed on the computer. Meanwhile, lets perform some further troubleshooting to narrow down the issue: Note: Please setup a restore point before performing the following steps. 1. Restart the system into a clean boot environment. How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 2. Install the update again. 3. Restart again to the clean boot environment and check if the connection works. 4. If everything works, please restore the previously disabled startup items and check if the problem occurs. If not, the culprit of the previous problem is the previous installation is incorrect. If yes, the culprit should be one of these disabled startup items. We can use MSCONFIG again to identify it. Hope it helps. Nicholas Li - MSFT
