Vista Unable to Wirelessly Connect with WPA-PSK TKIP
Hi, I am posting this again because http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=481371&SiteID=17 did not provide a solution to the problem. I have a Lenovo laptop with Vista 32-bit Home Premium (using Intel 4965AGN Wireless adapter - driver version 11.5.1.15) and unable to connect to a 3COM Access Point (3CRWDR100A-72) using WPA-PSK TKIP.There are a few solutions (but not a fix), i.e. using WPA2 (unfortunately my access point does not support WPA2 and if possible I don't want to buy a new one), toggling the DHCP broadcast flag (DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle ) and disabling the IPv6 on the network adapter. But they don't work for my laptop.I can connect with WEP 128 bit but this connection is not secure. I can also verify that the router works with WPA-PSK TKIP because I can connect my XP laptop via this connection. Please help.Thank you.

Is your AP broadcasting its SSID, or no?Reason I ask, is: Vista does seem to be a bit allergic to WPA-enabled WLANs that are not broadcasting their SSID.

Hi, Could you let me know the exact wording of the error message when you attempting to connect the wireless network? Please also export and upload the WLAN-AutoConfig event log to the following space: https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=558b5009-1755-492f-96d0-b73cd87c6522 Password: Vf0CpWur3JUh!@p5 To export the event log, follow these steps: 1. Open Event Viewer. 2. Navigate to Applications and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\WLAN-AutoConfig, and click Operational. 3. Click Action, and click Save Events As. Additionally, I suggest contacting 3COM manufacturer to confirm if the product is fully compatible with Windows Vista and upgrading the latest firmware to check the result.

Hi Jason,Thank you for your reply. The error is "Wireless authentication failed due to a timeout".I have already contacted 3Com and this AP is discontinued in November 2006. They cannot confirm whether it is fully compatible with Windows Vista and the AP has the latest firmware dated April 2007. The requirement is only for a compatible wireless adapter. Will send you the event log by today.Best regards,WP

Hi, Based on the error message, it seems that Windows Vista does not get the response from the AP after it sent out the credential. As 3Com has stopped supporting this product, if it is possible, I suggest performing the following tests to isolate the issue; Move the laptop to other wireless network and check the result. Replace with other wireless Router that is fully compatible with Windows Vista and check the result.

Hi I have the same problem as WP, but the WAP is meant to be OK. The error is "Wireless authentication failed due to a timeout". My WAP is ZyXel PrestigeP-2602HWL-61C ZyXel have sent me the latest firmware and uploading it does not resolve this issue. ZyXel's website indicate that this WAP is compatable with all versions of Windows Vista. I can connect to the WAP using Win XP PCs but not with Vista. I have a new Pavilion dv68xx laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit) The Wireless Nic is Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AGN. I will check and install any driver updates tonight. The Nic can connect to the WAP when using WEP or no security at all. SSID is set to broadcast (Hide = No) Not sure if Fragmentation Threshold and CTS/RTS settings could be causing this. Will keep looking for solutions and post what I find. Any other ideas? Thanks Paul
